and her name is Irma....
« on: January 08, 2012, 10:03:05 PM »
i think she really looks like an Irma too.   i named her in memory of Capt Carls' Erma, he was one of the good guys here and i wish he still was here.  wonder where his dear Erma went?
so i snuck Irma out tonight to fill the tank (found a place that was still $3.39).  for now,  i am running her on my old Eagle plate while i wait for the antique one to come via snail mail.   hope i don't get caught as i sure would have a lot of sputtering to do  :o
so i decided to check the high beams to see how bright they were, and was immediatley in the dark! :o
apparently there are no hi beams at all or any other lights for that matter.  when you flick the hi beam switch the headlights go out.
so now i know i only have regular beams.  what do you suppose that is about?
not too concerned since antique cars are not allowed out after dark anyways.  but its another thing on the list of things to fix.  at least i have lights to drive by.
i stopped at the grocery store too and noticed the looks i was getting ;)  they sure get some looks don't they?
then i go back out, groceries in hand, and stand there clicking my key fob at her.  soon realizing i am being an idiot.

its h*ll getting old..........

I've done the key fob clicking thing with the Eagle a couple of times.  Love taking my Eagle to the grocery store as I never have to search for it in the lot (too noticable).  I routinely have issues finding the Saturn and Caravan - heck half the time I cannot remember which one of the two I drove.

When I switched to high beams and got nothing but darkness the problem was the switch.  It's in the steering column at the dash.

I remember a really long day where I pressed unlock on the Caravan's key fob at my front door; looked at the door for a couple seconds, then called myself an idiot.

Yup, I've clicked the key fob at the front door to the house, too.  :banghead:

I've also wondered what became of Carl's Erma. Hope it found a new home.

Brandon, I have to admit to getting a kick out of you young'uns. Key fob??? That's this little remote thingie, right? Back in my day ....... A remote was when you got a kid to go unlock the door because your hands were full. You give them the key & say "Go unlock the door".

It's funny, key fobs can be a good thing, or a bad. I can't count how many people have asked me for a key to fit their door or trunk (think newer vehicle, one key does it all,  ;)). When I ask why, they say their remote went bad, and now they can't lock their car cause the ignition key is different and won't work. I then have to explain that since they relied so much on their remote, the lock cylinder corrodes and becomes unusable. So instead of just $60 for a remote, they need $200 worth of lock cylinders too :P .  (keep that in mind if you live in the salt belt  ;)).

Shaggimo I got some lock oil stuff from my locksmith when I replaced the locks on the eagle. They said to use it occassionally to keep that from happening

Not a bad habit to get into  ;) , I give mine a shot of light spray grease every so often.
