Calipers

I have a question regarding how these calipers release. I am familiar with the type that use 2 slide pins with small springs that allow the outer pad to disengage. I don't get how these wedge style calipers on the 80 work. My right front froze up a while ago when I had brought the car to have the carb adjusted. Since I arrived with a very hot right front rim he said it was just seized and he would clean it up. I assumed that he meant to clean and grease the pins. So after again letting it sit for a year when I got it to the body shop for paint a few weeks ago it was froze up again. That's when I realized that they were this type. So other than surface rust in those slides, what could be causing this and did later years convert to the 2 pin type. If so will they fit on a 1980? Also can the same caliper be mounted on either side as I don't see much difference other than the hose would be in the front or back depending on which one you use.

IIRC, '80 to '82 (early) are the same. My '82 Spirit calipers are same as Eagle (ease of swapping the front assembly in later)
