bad luck turned good

Just wanted to say hi out there and let you know my story. Recently bought a 83 wagon. It ran great on the way home but the next day started running poorly so I decided to just put it in the shop( I have not had good experiences with shops ). I took it to a good shop and they did a tune up on it cost 450$ on top of the 1000$ I bought the car for thought I had got a good deal. They told me it needed brakes shocks and suspension work another 1000$. Still OK but not a week later the car overheated( bad temp gauge) and the motor seized. After telling the mechanic I just bought the car for a steal and to find any problems and the seizing not having to do with the shocks brakes or suspension I was a little upset. Found a 4.2 jeep engine the guy was selling it and a 4 cyl for 400$. Hes in Florida and the engine is in his relatives garage( they might just want it out of there) waiting for the call back. Well I called a tow truck to bring the car to my house. And when the tow truck driver picked up the car and I told him I just couldn't get rid of it he told me he had one he would give me for the price of the tow about 120$ and 100$ for the title. Its an 80. Don't know about compatibility and the tranny is bad but for 220$ I might just have to have two. Waiting now for him to bring the 80. Really stoked.
And to everyone that makes this site go. THANKS! Really going to need this information seeing that these cars may hopefully never see the shop.
So now I own two broken down Eagles but I feel real lucky. Might have to go play bingo tonight.

congratulations on the find!....and my condolences to you about the repair bill.....lord knows us Eagles have seen our share of those.

Compatibility isn't an issue in "Most" cases The only problems I know about are trying to go from an automatic transmission to a manual or back and making sure your axles are compatible with each other. but I think those are the 2 major areas as far as I know at the moment, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, but You got a heck of a deal, Just be careful with those shops, personally I would listen to the groups of car junkies that seem to have more sense than money. they "Generally" know who locally to trust when it comes to shops working on their cars.
