My newest Eagle
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:27:30 PM »
Well I bought this 1988 last winter and finally have gotten around to work on it.  I also found a terribly rotted 86 with low mileage and a solid drive train for parts as the 88 had a blown engine.  So everyday after work I started on the the big task of resurrecting it.  Swapped the good for bad,  made a few changes under the hood,  replaced the A/C evaporator,  even found a set of the aluminum wheels a few hours away.  So now it runs and drives,  just stinks that it has an 86 engine but it is quiet and smooth running.  Still have to do some front end work as the coils are broke,  a few rusted brake lines to replace,  and a complete cleaning.  Then on goes the missing trim and mouldings and it might be ready to fly by summer.  Don't worry every removable part was saved from the 86 and put away.  Well enough of the bantering,  here are a few pics...

Looking Good!  You could have swapped the '88 head in, with a couple of bushings, but it looks like you have a good valve cover on the '86 engine.  Nice work.

I wish I had an 87 or 88 head for it,  but the car came with a pre 87 engine.  Looks to me it was a CJ engine and trans somebody put in there.  The car is black but was painted some time ago.  It was the dark blue metallic which I would rather have,  but I'll get used to it.  The interior is blue,  seats are in good shape but the headliner is sagging.  And I also found a blue console with the gauge pack for 25 dollars.  Can't wait to put that in and get it hooked up.

OK been a while but work and money shortages always get in the way of play... I put the new coil springs in from Espo. The last pair I got for my 86 has held up very well so I went with them again for the 88.  New exhaust with cherokee converter is on, and the A/C is blowing cold.  MIU with a fresh carter and it runs as good as the Howell set up I installed on my 86.  Gonna stay carb'd on this one though, plus it's a good deterrent from borrowing the car as none of my friends know how to "pump the gas" LOL  Thanks again fellow Nesters, as you guys and gals keep me motivated to keep going with my Eagles.
