My '84 is in need of new front exterior door handles. Are the front and rear handles the same? Also what years and models will swap directly over to my Eagle?

Thanks!

I just bought and installed some of those jeep door handles, got them on ebay. They fit great and work great too. Very cheap and actually made much better than the originals, not pot metal

I put them on the SX, so no back doors

I put some of the jeep ones on Eagle Eyes. I got them off amazon they were pretty cheap but a much better quality than what was on there. and yes the front and back door handles are the same, just not side to side.

Make sure to use the Jeep Wrangler 1/2 door handles, none of the others will work.

I have heard both- regarding swapping sides and some saying you don't have to and I have also heard that the rod retaining clip needs to be flipped over however. (That's all, that's a matter of popping the plastic clip out, flip it over, and pop it back in).
Just look them over real good and compare them to your originals.

I personally haven't had to change my handles out yet, I try to keep everything lubed up really good.
But when I do I will be going for the Jeep 1/2 door handles too.

For the Jeep handles are they the ones for the 1/2 doors and tailgates, YJ and TJ? I've always wondered if the handles off my TJ would swap over...lol

Ditto on the bug. And iirc the door handles do swap side to side just how MudPuppy described. However it was about 4 or 5 years ago when I did door handles so I may be mistaken. I do know that they were the same handles for all years but I guess the black Jeep half door is the way of the future.

Here's a question. Do they only come in black or do they come in chrome? I'd be super happy with functioning door handles but the OCD dude way down inside of me would freak out if they didn't match.

You can get chrome ones too.

AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

Prafeston

The chrome ones are a smooth chrome look though so they will not be a direct match to the textured pot-metal of the originals.
