Smoking Positive Bat Terminal
« on: June 28, 2011, 09:22:30 PM »
Okay.. About to slit wrists.. just kidding. But seriously this is becoming excessively frustrating.
When attempting to start there is excessive current 'feed back' and the positive side of the Solenoid starts burning up. The solenoid engages but that's all folks.

New Sol, New battery cables, Battery is Optima Yellow top, Full jumpstart scenario (full voltage from running jump car), engine ground is good, connection to starter is good.

It did run for a few seconds at one point but I have not been able to turn it over since.
It just rapid clicks and blows smoke up the A$$ of the positive lead.

If there are wiring recommendations would it be possible to forward pics? Our bays have usually been tooled over by this age..hehe..

Thank you for any input.... I'll be swapping starter this weekend.

I know you said new cables, but are they clean? The sx did this to me a few weeks ago, I had thought it was the solenoid. When the new solenoid didn't fix it, I looked to the starter, it tested out ok. I cleaned my battery terminals and my cables, (new this year btw), problem solved, lol. (just a thought)

Starter motor bad.  Causing too much pull and overloading everything else.

Thanks folks. I will swap the starter as that does seem to be most logical. Current needs somewhere to go if the Starter is seized or current is severed somewhere.

Muusstt ... persevere...

Are you sure the engine isn't seized? It will cause the same symptoms if the starter can't turn the engine over.

Pull the starter out and bench test it to rule it out.
