new rebuild with slight slip
« on: June 26, 2011, 07:31:43 PM »
Sounds good till we arrive into second and before third comes the motor revs going into third. If this only happens at low rpm and it does is there any worry not messing whatever up. Or should I attend to the problem and run it harder so the slipping doesn't continue as normal when the engine revs at lower rpms when shifting to third? Finally, does my tranny fluid and filter need changed at 10 thous. miles or when?

I wonder if your kick down needs to be adjusted? At what speed does it shift into third?

There's a rod that runs from the carb to the transmission. I think you may need to shorten it an eighth of an inch or so at the adjuster. I'll see if I can find the How-to in the Eaglepedia.

I'm not sure. It's not something you do very often, I don't think. Anyone else know?

AMC recommended the Auto Trans fluid be changed every 30,000 miles
