Simple Drum Brake Question
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:38:10 AM »
So I was assembling the rear brakes last night, and ran into a slight snag (I think). Both sides of the car were missing the self adjuster hardware (cable, and lever), so I have no clue whether or not I have it hooked up correctly, I look at my Chilton's but all it gave me was an exploded view of all the pieces in the drum, lol. It doesn't look right to me but I can't figure another way to run it, here's a picture of what I did. I know the cable is right on top, but I question the bottom.

Is this correct? If not would it be possible for someone to post a picture of what it should look like (far easier than explaining, lol)?
Thanks in advance! ;D

I think the spring hooks to the adjuster at the same place the cable with the hook is.
I'll look for a picture or diagram.

Yup, as it pulls the adjuster down to engage the star wheel.

thanks for this posting. I just went to change my brakes and the adjuster cables and levers aren't even there....probably explains why the self adjusting unit was rust forzen solid! yikes. ordered a new self adjustin kit L & R from jc whitney and should be allset now. thanks for the picture and diagram!!
