That looks like the one my buddy bought.

Does anyone know if the eagle shocks screw spacing is the same or different than other models?

Maybe we just got one with an incorrect spacing?

I bought this one and it worked great.

I heard there is a specific internal spring compression tool for the Eagle that someone is selling on Ebay.

My buddy bought one but it must have been for another AMC vehicle as the gap between the two screws on the bottom was different.

I'm trying to convince MIPs to sell me his :P

But in all seriousness, I should get my own.
We might take that incorrect one and get a welder to modify it to work.

Thanks for your responses.  Got a master cylinder from RockAuto since no one seems to carry them locally.  It's scheduled to be installed tomorrow.  I'll let you know if that solves the problem!

Defiantly do a visual check for fluid leaks at each wheel and the distribution block. If there is no sign of a leak then it is likely to be the master cylinder.

Sounds like the master to me, might also be a leaky caliper or wheel cylinder.

Suspension, Steering, Brakes, Wheels & Tires / Bad master cylinder?
Last post by vangremlin - October 26, 2025, 09:58:27 PM
So on my 1980 2 door sedan, I'm having an issue with the brakes. 95% of the time they work fine. About once per trip, when I apply the brakes, the pedal goes lower than normal (not to the floor) and isn't as firm. If I let off the pedal and apply the brakes again, they act normal. Been doing it for awhile. I had the brakes bled, and it still does it. Does this sound like a problem with the master cylinder?  Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to let this be a long term project. These cars can be hard to find parts for and it takes time.
Welcome to the forum!

Hello everyone,
My husband has had an 82 sx4 since before we met and we are finally getting serious about restoring it. Any tips and insight shared will be much appreciated. I am however particularly looking for resources and info on back windows and back windshield louvers. I'm sure I'll have more inquiries but share whatever you felt was helpful with your own efforts!
