Now it is time to show some welding job I´ve done. I posted some small pictures some time ago, but now it´s time to show more...

AND what did I found under left fender?
Wanna see more ??
Is the rest of the car that rusty? Looks like a lot of work ahead of you. Yes, additional pictures would be nice when you have the time.
Sure dose look like you have your worke cut off on the fabrication and rust remobel section.
Try to see if you can locate some good iner fenders to swap for the ones that are on there at this time.
Next step was...
Alot of new sheet metal and pieces of old frame...
And inner fenders of 70 Hornet!
Boy you sure are a fast worker it looks like it whont be long before your AMC Eagle is ready for the road again
I´m not so fast as it looks. It took me several days to do that job. And more was ahead...
But after paint work it looks better than ever. I had to do quite a big job with rotten front axle.
Looks like it is coming back together nicely. Great Job!
Recomendation:
Since you got the fender disasemble why not allso spray it with some undercoating for better protection and to absorb the road noise?
There are a lot of rust protection inside of frame and all weldings. After paint I sprayed first layer. When all things are put together (Brakelines, Fenders...) I´ll spray "tons" of undercoating. Salt is used in Finland too...
I don´t want to spoil (again) this rare finnish car. In Finland we have only 8 Eagles! (I have got two of them!)
And we thought some people here were trying to corner the AMC Eagle market -- you have 25% of them in your country!
Near me lives a guy who owns also two Eagles! It means that 50 % of finnish Eagles are very close to each other, near city of Tampere.
My other Eagle isn´t very beautiful, but it works!
I bought it about a year ago. It was taken in to a wreckyard of abandoned vehicles in Helsinki (capitol of Finland)!
Not beautiful right now. But at least you saved what is a rare bird in your country. So do VW vans only come in orange in Finland? They are now rare in the U.S. -- the old air cooled ones were very popular here in the 60's and 70's.
the old air cooled ones were very popular here in the 60's and 70's. - -
especially with flowers painted on the sides and sweetish smoke coming out the windows - -
or so I have heard.
So is that lift kit working for you or dose it get expensive moving the crane along with the AMC Eagle Wagon?
Orange VW Diesel Transporters were used by finnish post.
The most usual color was blue (as far as I can remember) and when it got sun, it turned into greyish...
That crane belongs local car wrecker and he said that 2x4 thru windows is the best and safet way to lift or move cars...
(I´ve got pics where you can see Eagle flying... wanna see?)
Yes, yes we sure do want to see AMC Eagles flying.
You can see my Eagle flying:
http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=5461.0
But what happened to my black Wagon? Left side need some welding job too...
I removed some rusty parts...
Sure dose look like there was a lot of rust on the sub frame and the fender, but from the first pictures you posted here you did a great job restoring them.
Did you just do a restoration on the parts or did you all so reinforce them?
And next step was...
Old and new together...
Now you can´t see what is hidden in subframe...
Juhap needs to come to my house -- and of course with all of his tools. Great work thus far!
If I possesed this ability, I would have bought that sx/4 last year.
From looking at all this worke, I'm starting to think we need to figure how to get our forum top builders together and have them desing the same type of frame that was use for the AMC Sundancer and a lift kit for our AMC Eagles.
I agree -- that may be what will be needed to ensure integrity for the next 25 years.
BTW... Are there any pics where Sundancers modifications are shown? I wonder what kind of subframe connectors there are, and what else... How does roll bar look without plastic (fiberglass) cover? And so on...
Somewhere around here we have partial pictures. Too bad we could not get an underbody drawing. In their advertising it stated it was a 14 piece affair.

Back to (Wagon) business...
After many hours of welding there was no gap between frame and fender. Inner fender (with battery holder) is from 70 Hornet.
And I was able to bolt on (cleaned and painted or renewed) suspension parts. If you paint parts with cast iron paint, black or silver, they look like new. Pink coil springs, they are my "trademark". I´ve painted them pink for fun, starting year 1988 (and car was my Volvo 142).
WOW! You are really coming along with this project. Looking almost factory fresh. I remain envious.
Looks like you are all most done.
sure he deserves a condecoration for that job !
There was rust under T-5...
New Bearings, ball joints, all parts painted, it is just clean and nice to bolt on...
New brakes, new brake calipers... Money flies... These parts did cost me a fortune... (Eagle spare parts are expensive here in Finland!)
Looks very nice. Yes, clean parts are happy parts. Wish there was a way to get parts to you cheaper -- what you just replaced are still fairly reasonably priced here in the States.
Wow! A soon to be "brand new" Eagle.
You know right now looking at the pictures of your new hubbs reminds me of when I rebuild mine and had the bearing in and press all together I realise I had forgoten to install the dust cover.
When I took things apart I found out that there was no O-ring in left bearinghouse. So, water had run in for 19 years! You can imagine how these two A-40 bearings looked alike They are not easy to find here in Finland...
I did buy new O-rings among other parts. Most of them are for front suspension. Prices are Euros (€).
BTW. There is no rust under gearbox anymore...
Looks more like you are going to open a parts shop
Now we know where to get parts. Are you able to purchase them locally or do you have to send away for them?
A finnish Jeep parts shop have some parts (i.e similar to Jeep) home. But then there are parts that come overseas (U.S. or Sweden).
I have some used parts too... I´m gonna try what happens with Offy and Holley (and home made headers). Better cylinder head and... and...and...
I see you are going with a Carb Body Fuel Injection swap, make sure you keep us posted on the conversion and dont forget we like to see lots of pictures.
Lost and found: an early picture, where you can see how much I had to rebuild drivers side subframe... Almost nothing old left...
Boy, we need your talents over here to save the Eagles that some feel are beyond flying again!
So how are the up grades going?
My projects are resting because I am rebuilding my house... I`ll inform you when something new happens...
Hello! Hello! Hello!
Something is going on...
I started working with this project again. I removed gas tank and rear axle. Shocks, rear pumper and so on are still there because bolts are very rusty. :-\ But I´ll take all away, no matter what it takes... :P Car needs sandblasting and some welding under there, but nothing alarming, yet.
But there are some very rusty parts... For example this piece of pressed sheet metal...
Uh, no sandblasting or welding on that piece I hope...
Sand blast that and it would probably disappear!
No. I´m not gonna sandblast that one, just fabricating new one... I have already done new bands for gas tank.
So what was that hunk of rust before it became rust?
It was original gas tank´s stone shield...
And here is the new one I finished today...
How did you form those sharp compound curves? I've done a fair bit of metal forming with hand tools, but that looks like it would be all but impossible to do with hand tools.
Wow, that looks great! Maybe you should start making replacements for parts that are prone to rusting. I'll bet a few of us have some rusty pieces that could use replacing.
Excellent work Juhap. Shipping from Finland would be terrible. Time for him to move here.
Looks great!
Thank you...
But actually it was just a little rolling, cutting. welding and grinding... and time to spend... 2,5 hours of work.
Project goes on... Now there is nothing under the floorpan, but rust... :'(
Next thing is to order some spare parts, bushings, handbrake cables, fasteners, bolts and emission/fuel/brakelines. :P And after that some welding job...
Any pictures of the floor pan Juhap?
OK!
Here are two "before" pictures...
There are two rustholes but they can´t be seen...
More rust and one hole... and there are (at least) three more to weld. :-[
(http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/jpihkanen/eagle/IMG_4630.jpg)
This is my electrolysis tank.
And rust free (after electrolysis) and painted parts.
Excellent work!! Now to build a tank an entire unibody can be dipped in.
Yes. That is my dream. :D But I´ll use other means...
BTW: What is that little (2" high) "canister" near fuel tank? Something to do with emission system? I have to fabricate new one, because most of it has rusted away. :P Or does any of you have one extra (and in good condition)? I´d sure have some use to it.
Juhap,
I believe that is the roll over valve.
Eddie
Juhap,
I have heard of using electrolysis on rusted parts, but I have never seen the procedure. Thank you for the pictures!
Is there any weakening of the metal from the process?
Yes, that is the roll over valve Juhap.
Juha, what make of rims do you have on this car (picture 1&2)? I like them very much.
They are ARE i.e. American Racing Equipments wheels.
What is happening?
Are we measuring for a lift or getting ready to flip it on its side for a thorough underbody redo???
Doing the famous front wheel drive conversion ???
I've heard of RM, but using 2x4s for a lift kit is stretching things just a little. ;)
I'm more worried about the sheet tied to the end of the garage door trtack holding the car up :D Nice work, and dedicated ambition :)
I would say its a major restoration with a temporary rear end. Is this yours juhap?
Quote from: juhap on April 18, 2008, 04:16:24 PM

I am impressed by all the work you've gotten done! How much more do you have to do now?

I think your friend is right. Still like them very much. Sometimes you will see them on an old Mercedes.
"I've heard of RM, but using 2x4s for a lift kit is stretching things just a little."
It is so common to have 2" or 4" lift... so I did a 2x4" lift... ;D ;D ;D
Seriously... Some sunny day I´m going to do some underbody sandblasting. And this old Chevy frontaxle gives more space under the car to do this hidious job...
"How much more do you have to do now?" Sandblasting, painting, gas-/emission-/brakelines, suspension and rear end. Some welding. Engine, transmission... Oh my... there are so much to do. And this is not my only project!
My biggest project is a new garage!
How many sq ft will it be?
Ah, Juhap, weren't you supposed to be building that in my backyard?
"How many sq ft will it be?"
Whole area is 8.75x16.75 meters, so it is 146.56 sq m. I´m not quite sure, but is it 1431 sq ft??
And floorheated area is 94 sq m (918 sq ft).
Okay, now were are all envious - a garage.
I still have my shade tree.
Don't even have the tree, and the garage is full of motorcycles....
Well, that is a happy garage Jurjen...
Happy Jurjen too 8)
And now... some progress.
No welding or anything since November 2008! :P
But...
I found a new heater control panel. It came from biggest finnish US-car parts dealer for a very reasonable 10 € price! I´d call that a good buy... It used to had 358 € pricetag. :o Previous owner of my Eagle had ordered it, but in some reason he left it there...
And that new carpet from ACC...
Here is my moneypit... err... garageproject. Almost ready to use. Some isolation and electric jobs to do. And heatersystem too... Money flies...
Looks good!
What's the function of the railings above the eavestrough? Something to do with snow or ice?
10 Euros for a brand new heater head is a great price! Your Eagle will be happy with all the new parts and the new garage!
Control panel looks like this even today. Broken and blower switch is not working. So my Eagle really needs that...
And, yes those rails are called snow barriers. They´ll stop snow coming down. It is a canadian invention... but those are DIY and bolted through roof frame, not just bolted to the roof.
http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6453623.pdf
I forgot your car was a 5 speed. Our neighbors put a new metal roof on their home this summer and it has those snow stoppers as their roof has a very high pitch. Looking out the window, they appear to work.
Very nice workshop, Juhap.

I'm insanely jealous of your interior, it's very similar to the goals I have for mine, sport package, gauges, leather, the works. If I could have another eagle, it would be that same setup. Sadly, I have to abandon the center console idea for mine because I'd need a package tray, and mine came without AC.
Got a new hood insulator from APD. Price 35 dollars turned to 78 Euros with all taxes, shipping, customs and other costs... :P
My new garage is almost finished, so it is almost time to drag my Eagle to new home... And do some final weldings before I can put all parts together... Hope very soon.
And now my friends... My Eagle has landed... in to the new garage.
Here it is together with my 65 American Hardtop and 2d...
Nice. The pink coil spriings do stand out. Did you do the custom paint job on the American?
That "Star and Stripes" custom paint is actually AMC Frost White and red/blue adhesive tape.
Like all "real" customs or hot rods my American Hardtop has name. I call mine " Spirit of 76"...
Paint or tape, looks good to me Juhap. I can barely manage "scotch tape".
Lookin' good, but please introduce the mechanic/inspector looking over the wagon (obviously deciding where to
start the rebuild).
Oh, you mean that supervisor wearing Santa Claus T-shirt... She is my daughter Alina. She is 3 years old (almost 4) and very interested in fathers cars and such...

I just found this thread, and I am impressed!! It is nice to see quality work being done. It appears that you are doing whatever it takes to get the car back on the road, and doing it right. I suppose it is worth the time and expense to fix such a rare car in your country. I am going through the same type of thing restoring the '80 Turbodiesel. Getting parts for the VM engine is harder than I thought, and may be very expensive (kinda like getting Eagle parts in Finland).
New pieces of sheet metal shaped to fit...

I admire your great work. I'm also impressed with your English. You write quite clearly.
Thank you of those kind words...
Before I began to work with Eagle, I did some fiberglass/paint job and got that "sport" lid of American Hardtop done. It was under construction about 5 years! :o
(http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/jpihkanen/hardtop/015.jpg)
Great work Juhap! Also a great shot of where the Eagle's computer is for those looking for it.
I drove over 6 hours today to pick up an Eagle 258 engine that used to belong together with the #1 finnish Eagle! It had new engine (actually just long block) changed a couple of months ago.
What are your plans for it Juhap?
I´m not sure yet. Maybe just save it, or put it together as running engine and testing injection with Offy intake... or 4.0 head and injection T5 transmission for my future (4x4) Hornet ...
Safety first.... Welding blankets, fire extinguisher and air blow gun...

If you go efi/head, definitely install the 4.0 cam as well, using its lifters and pushrods. Also, I'd recommend swapping to an AX15 if you go efi, they're far stronger than a T5 (unless yours is a World Class)
That´s how drivers side looked few days ago...

EGGcellent!
Today I did last weldings. A lot of finishing job and then paint. Black of course...
I had a new exhaust system made by finnish fabricator Martelius Exhaust. Perfect fit...
Old one had so much DIY parts that I couldn´t use its design at all.
Looking good Juha. Slowly getting there.
Yes, slowly indeed... Too slow. ;) But after years of sleep this is better than nothing.
Today I bought new floor drain plugs and sealed them with white putty. Like assembly line guys did...
As you can see I used black stuf to seal weldings like they were before. And after that I sprayed black body protection stuff to get factory stock look. I think some matt black (or grey) paint would give a nice touch... It´d look as new... Hmm... nice...
EGGselent job! Looks great.
Very nice Juhap.
And now it looks like this... It needs a couple of days to dry and then it is carpet-time! Yes!!! New carpet and isolation stuff are waiting...
Looks factory fresh Juhap.
And more...
I couldn´t wait until tomorrow... so I cut new isolation mat using old as a model. Holes for seat bolts and so on...

EGGselent job. I like what you did with the green padding better than the black tarry stuff. Never had my seat out to look, but doesn't sound good.

Is that a "modern" after market carpet?
I believe they included enough carpet that you will be able to recarpet your door bottoms as well. Anyway super job your doing there! Very nice! I'm impressed!!!!
black body protection stuff, is that a real product, or just black rust paint? Very nice work so far! Can't wait to see the final product.
First I painted twice with black rust paint and after that I sprayed almost three spray bottles of rust protection... I hope that this is enough to keep rust away.
Here is a new hatch from my "flying Eagle". Old one has rust so it is easier to paint this one...

Unfortunately there were rust spots, so I needed to spray some brown paint. And more rubbing compound...
And here you are!
Compare this to the first pic... Some change!

As usual. Looking good Juhap.
great work, can't wait to see it finished. Keep up the awesome work!
We would like to see a photo of the carpet when it is finished.
This was the last one... ;D No more rust... :o

Nice work!! Can't wait to see the carpet installed and the interior finished. You should be proud!
Today I finished trunk area...
Few days earlier I washed carpets, cut new sound isolation, polished those stainless steel bars (before that I made rust removal using citric acid) and yesterday I washed and rubbed all plastic parts to look like new. I didn´t get color right, because they are somewhat sunkissed... Flashlight makes that new gloss paint look like light brown compared to original semigloss...

Something "new"...
Looks good so far.
Now thats what I call eye candy!!! Looks great!!!
The new carpet is looking great. Awesome. I can't wait to see when it's settled.

And the question is?
Which one? It is difficult to choose... Factory stock or -84 "hi-fi" ;)
Hi-Fi hands down.
I prefer stock AM/FM, but that is just me.
If it were me I'd go stock! I know it will sound like a 80's radio but back then we all thought that was great!! But then again thats just me showing my age.Beside if you ever sell it one of the first questions you will be ask is,Do you have the stock radio. Either way enjoy ypur eagle its looking great!!!
I like that original radio and how it looks like. It sounds kinda "blurry", but that´s no issue...
But there are something against... Colors of plastic and "wood" are wrong. Black can be painted but how can I "stain" that "wood"? I have an extra consol from Concord... Is it possible to take "wood" out of it? Color is right.
And there is something positive... I could get rid of that broken rear window washer...
The wood can be carefully removed from both and replaced. They are hard-backed appliques.
I believe if one used goo/gone and a plastic body filler spreader and some patiences it will come off! I personally have never taken the wood grain off but have seen one after it was done,so I know it will come off and it appeared to have only held on with some sticky stuff.Just take your time and I think you will be fine.
my advice would be to use a heat gun and get the wood warm to touch, then it should just come right off. If you are thinking about keeping the orignial style radio I just purchased one from amazon.com that sounds great and has all of the modern stuff (usb input, aux jack, sd card reader) instead of a tape deck. i am pretty sure they ship your way
Something has happened during last days...
As you can see I found defroster switch parts that were missing. And look how clean driverseat is. I bought leather cleaner can from a discount sale. And miracles happened. I got rid of all grease, oil and "normal" s..t. At first I used very expensive cleaner with average results. Now I´m gonna use that stuff to clean entire interior!
Ashtray is in citricacid because of heavy rust. And its plastic cover is cleaned with that leather cleaner. All ash and black grease is gone!
Here you can see how much better that low price cleaner worked.
Some Eagles had tilt columns, my wagon does.I would think the electrics would be a nightmare, turn signals, hazards etc. , but then again you have done miracles with what you have now allready.
I went tilt to nontilt with an 84. Not sure of the amc donor. But I had to redo the steering wheel mounts. Meaning it was closer to the driver.
Looking very nice Jughap.
Not sure on the columns. You would think AMC would have adapted their wiring to work with the GM column. But I am not really sure.

I was to vague. Wires matched. My column was a concord of some year.
I don't know what you did with the carpet, but it looks factory. Nice job. btw, what color carpet did you order? I think you have the same color interior as I do.
"I don't know what you did with the carpet"
I just cut it to fit.
"what color carpet did you order?"
ACC box says it is Cutpile carpet and color is called Cognac. Finnish dealer had color samples and I liked that color. Next darker would have been the same as original. Cognac is little bit too light... compared to door and seat carpets.
Well that carpet looks awesome. did you glue it down or something? how did you get it to sit soo flat? Nice, Have an egg.
Thx for the info. I'll be replacing mine (hopefully soon) so that's what color I'll get. I think we have the same color interior.
No glueing or nothing... There is just one "hump" under the driverseat and few "not so flat" spots. But I think that one hot summer day does some miracles... There are only 10 C degrees in my garage, no heating so far...
Today I started to change steering column. First I went to my parents house and pulled my "flying eagle" out of its garage with my fathers International tractor, so I had enough space to take steering column out. That took about an hour... Then I worked with packge tray... No tools, I did forget to take all I needed... That simple job did take almost an hour!!!
After that the main job was easy and simple job, 20 minutes.
And after all that Eagle back to garage. That was just a dream! Three of four wheels blocked!!! Rust in brakes. It was impossible to drive backwords. We pushed it with tractor, no results. So it is now in the middle of field... R.I.P. >:D
Just like I thought... Electric problems... headlight dimmer switch are different. And of course plastic covers they are different, too... >:D >:D
Are you thinking about a four wheel steering option? ;D
No,no...
But this would be something quite different...

I knew a man who did that except he used his walking stick on the steering wheel.
I have been working with steering column. It needs a lot of work...
But meanwhile...
Someone had drilled five holes, I don´t know why?
But magic happens... No holes... ;D

WOW! Eggs to you for that amazing magic trick!
You're gonna have to tell us (ok, me) how you did that. what was the repair/product/technique?
It was not a very hard job to do.
I smoothened edges...
... and several layers of soft body filler (of good quality). And sanding and so on...
and then paint... That´s it! Eagle dash is made of hard plastic material (I don´t know what) and I have done that same job before with good results. I hope this works too... ;) There are now five spots without that "leather" structure, but that is better than holes. ;D
That steering column job, it is kinda puzzle... Pics are taken...
Thanks for that, I egg'd ya.
Those inexpensive vinyl repair kits come with that swatch of material that allows you to replicate the leather look by applying it to soft materials before they harden.
you sure do some nice work juhap, nice looking car
The Hatch of Sport Wagon needed some work before it would be ready for Limited Wagon. First its lower part soaked in citricacid for several days to get rid of rust.
Welding...

Now it needs body filler and some paint.
What kind of container do you soak parts that large in? Looks like it is coming along nicely.
It ain´t nothing much... Just two 7/8"x6" headboards (from my old bed) nailed together straight angle. And couple of pieces of 1/4" plywood as head pieces. No pics so far. There was a piece of plastic film inside of that "container". Amount of acid is only about 1.5 liters! Cost is about 1 euro! (1,4 $)
I have an electrolysis tank made of old board (taken of my scrapped barn) and 1/4" round ironbars (leftovers from my homeproject) and of course plastic film inside. I have used this when I did rearaxle (Eagle and another AMC 35 with Aussie locker) rust removals. It is not suitable for citricacid because it takes so much of that "medicine"... But when I use caustic soda cost is about 2 euros!!
EDIT:
I found a pic of another electrolysis tank for smaller parts... pic has shown here before. Here is just a link...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/JuhaP/autot/IMG_4620.jpg
Thanks Juhap. I need to build some tanks one of these days.
I started steering colomn job a couple of days ago. First thing to do was paint stripping of those Chevy parts. It needed only paint thinner... After that little sanding and then it was time for plastic primer.
And then paint...
After that it was time to modify -81 Sport steering column similar as Chevy so that newer AMC blinker switch can work.
It needed an opening.
Not being here for a long time... Hmm... what has happened...
Bad paint... there were a lot of silicon spray under new paint. It needed many tries to get it right..
What else?
I sprayed a couple of spraycans of underbody coating (wax) on rear axle area. After that I did final assembly of leaf springs, stabilizer bar and axle. I found Monroe rear shocks of Monroe leveling system, that is not automatic system... Only modification to get Nissan parts to fit was changing lower grommets. And then I tried to modify one trailer hitch to Eagle, but that didn´t fit at all.
I have made a couple of orders from APD with my friend. During next weekend I´m going to get them home, so I can start final assembly. Rear brake drums are still missing and defogger switch and... and...
Impressive Work - egg for you!
Nice work!
Great work. Keep it up.
Thank you of those kind words...
Here are pics of Nissan Cedric (84 and on) shocks... that old gas tank is on its place just for mock up... I´m gonna get new one tomorrow... ;D And new brakes too...
New gas tank and another box full of parts... ;D These parts came from APD in few days, but finnish customs kept them about a week and finnish post needed another week to get them from Customs to my friend (distance was under 100 kms! 60 miles!). Talking about quality deliveries... >:D
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/JuhaP/eagle/005-4.jpg)
New mirror is not exactly the same, but close enough...
Was the mirror supposed to be like original equipment or a general replacement? Nothing like fresh new parts. Did customs get some more money from you?
I take it they drained all the moonshine from the gas tank ;D
Started a couple of days ago rear brake job... Found out that I hadn´t bought new brake shoes. I bought Jeep ones. Then I noticed that years ago I had cleaned all brake parts, parking brake levers, struts, anchor plates and such, but I did not paint them. So they went to citricacid bath again. I have to use old self adjuster parts because I forgot to buy new ones! And so on... And all paint and cleaning jobs are made in very cold garage, outside there is almost 30 Celsius degrees below zero...
New rear drums are the next problem... Old ones are dead and there are no substitutes... Jeep drums maybe... Money flies....
This was done yesterday...
Today nothing much. I bought 8 mm hydraulic line and made new gasline out of it... Where can I get that coil over gas or brake line?
Looks great, and I did the same thing - I painted all the surfaces with caliper paint. The funny thing on my car was, that flat bar that sits across both shoes right under the wheel cylinder, that was completely missing on my car. Whoever did the brakes last didn't put them back. Lucky for my donor car.
Great job and keep updating us.
Bought Jeep rear drums... Fits nicely. But if I used lathe, they´d look like original ones... :o
Long time, no see... ;D
Jeep drums fit nicely...
And new tank is almost ready...
I fabricated new stone shield. It is much bigger than original, because the new tank is not as it should be!! >:( Someone has welded its lower half backwords! :o This came from well known dealer. This was their thirteenth sold gas tank... :P Talking about my bad luck... It is almost impossible to send it back and get a new one instead...
Do you have a part number for those drums? The original ones are getting harder to get...
They are Wagner brand... and the number is BD125296. These were made in U.S. (no chinese s..t)
And if you want you can turn those like the originals! You can take those outer cooling "ribs" away. There is alot of stuff behind there. I think that some day when my Eagle is ready to fly, I´ll do that.
Hello, hello, hello...
Haven´t done almost nothing for some time. I have had some terrible influenza and it has been very cold weather here in Finland. Too cold to do anything.
But here are some pics... And yes, that white stuff is frost :o It is cold in my new garage.
New fuel tank... straps... and brake lines... Here you can see cover plate I had to fabricate to hide that lower part of my tank is backwards :P
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/JuhaP/eagle/006-3.jpg)
Here are new lines ...
Looks very nice under your car Juhap. I am not used to seeing shiny, unrusted components in that area.
Great work as usual! I can relate to the cold weather and influenza. Too bad they wouldn't take back the "bad" gas tank. What type of coating did you use on it.
"Too bad they wouldn't take back the "bad" gas tank."
APD informed me: "We have contacted the manufacturers technical department and are waiting for a response from them. The distributor will make a refund if the tank is returned to them. Shipping costs are not covered under warranty."
And shipping cost is the issue. If I want new tank, I had to pay three times 110 $ !!! I think it is too much...
"What type of coating did you use on it."
I used paint that is (almost) the same than POR15. And then added several layers of paintable underbody protection where it is impossible to spray later...
That would be one expensive gas tank. It was their mistake so they should have paid the shipping.
^
That was my idea too, but they have their business policy, so...
And when you live on the other side of the globe, millions of miles away, it isn´t so easy to kick back... :banghead:
Nothing much, but now there are brake and fuel lines... just a couple of clamps missing. And bolts of that plastic fuel tank shield... Now it is time to finish front axle and brakes... :hello2:
At least your shield lays flat. Mine got warped when I ran over a deer.
Those new bake assemballys look good! Im gonna be doin that before too long...By the way what kind of rims are those...those look really cool.

What's the purpose of that plastic shield? It seems pointless to me.
It keeps this notch, seen in picture below, out of sight...
But my new fuel tank has its lower part welded backwards... so it is useless..
It also likes to collect alot of dirt and debris between it and the tank :( . There is one on my wagon, but not the SX/4 .

Right, if anything the plastic cover seems to be a bad thing rather than serving any good function.
Eaglegirl's sx had one, I seemed to have forgotten ::) to put it back on when I did the tank swap. If you happened to back into something (log, rock, ect) that little piece of plastic would aid in saving your gas tank from a puncture wound though ;). Cherokees have them too, and I know they work for that :rotfl: .
And now there are new brakelines... I changed almost all of them, only two under hood are originals...

And now it is time to finish front suspension. There are some old parts left...
Are those lines copper?
I was going to ask the same question.......don't they need to be steel ?? I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but then again you asked first IE : ) ....... Is that a "new" metering block also ?? I didn't think you could get those anymore....
Juhap is from Finland. Perhaps they have different rules when it comes to brake lines. Yes, I missed the metering block. Is that new Juhap, and what application is it for?
Metering block is old one. I just cleaned and painted it...
And brake lines are made of 4.75 mm Cu-Ni brake line stuff sold by local speedshops.
Here: http://www.motonet.fi/web/guest/etusivu#productid=22-2225
Thanks Juhap. I forget my periodic table abbreviations (like I ever knew them); but, is that a copper - nickel alloy?
Yes, it is Copper-nickel alloy. It is non-corrosive and very easy to bend.
Good stuff Juhap!! Your doing a very thorough job....I'm taking notes cuz Ill be at that point with mine soon.
I believe that is the stuff that Vovlo (?) uses as oem, perfectly legal here in the states, my local supplier carries it, but it has quite a price tag. If you live in the snow/salt belt, well worth it if you plan on keep the car for an extended period of time.....
New parts added...
:help:
How much is this distance?
(from front edge of the bracket to the first bolt...)
DON`T WORRY ABOUT OF THE DISTANCE RIGHT NOW. YOU MUST TAKE THE CAR FOR AN ALIGNMENT SERVICE AFTER REASSEMBLING THE WHOLE SUSPENSION. THEY HAVE THE ALIGNMENT EQUIPMENT TO ADJUST THAT DISTANCE. GREETINGS
It is not so easy in Finland... Here we had no importer of Rambler/AMC after 1973... And nowadays our local aligment services don´t know anything about AMC or Ramblers. All AMCs younger that are private imports. All but Jeeps.
I´ll need this distance to get suspension parts together about right. They were apart and new bushings are different than the original ones.
HEY MAN JUST MEASURED ON MY 1980 EAGLE WAGON THERE ARE 17 INCHES AND A HALF DISTANCE FROM THE FIRST BOLT TO THE BRACKET AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT MY EAGLE IS WELL ALLIGNED HOPE THIS HELP
OK, thank you...
Did you take it from the center of the bolt...
OH YES I DID HOPE THIS HELP. GREETINGS FROM MEXICO..

It isn´t so bad at all... or is it just an illusion...

LOOKING GOOD SO FAR ... LOOKING FORWARD ON YOUR PROGRESS
Looks pretty tough, but a man with your talent can handle it! I'm sure of that. Nice work!! Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Being a good metal worker is huge adavantage when resoring there things!! Very nice work!!
Some progress...
Looks good. Did you form that fender lip yourself or cut it off another fender?
That's some welding. they look like tiny solder spots - They're soo neat.
I hammered a couple pieces of 1 mm sheet metal, and they became fender lip... No pics of fabrication because I had empty battery in my camera... :banghead:
I didn´t have time to finish my welding today. When it´s done there are no spots left...
Do you use an English wheel to form the metal?
No english wheel, just hammer and anvil or vice... pliers or some hand tools... And MIG-weld.
No EW, no shrinker, no planishing hammer... I wish I had all of these.
Very nice! Simple tools with talent can do as much as fancy tools but I'm sure they would make it easier.
How did you make the bend for the inner fender lip without having the outer part curl in? I used to cut 2X12's into the shape of the wheel opening, cut the shape of the wheel opening in the sheet metal with a space for the lip then sandwich the sheet metal between the two 2X12s, screw it together and then take a hammer and start hammering up the inner lip to make the 90 degree bend. Even with this method the metal clamped in the 2X12's wanted to curl up at the lower part of the wheel opening.
That makes it even more impressive knowing that was all done with the simplest of tools...Very nice metal work indeed!!
I just finished the last welding of my Eagle!
So here it is...

Wow, very nice job juhap. Egg to you for the incredibly nice work.
Thank you of those kind words. But it looks much better than it is...

I knew it, I just knew it... I had to weld two smaller rust holes! Right front fender wasn´t rustfree. I had brushpainted it after sandblasting, I think it was 2003... I found a layer of bondo under that black paint... There has been somekind of fenderbender before. No pics...
Started to work with motor. So far it has been "just" cleaning and taking all apart. As you all know leaking head cover gives you a lot of dirt. I ordered new parts (oli pump, timing chain and gears, gaskets, fuel pump) and it was a quite suprise that finnish US- car partshops don´t have these common parts anymore. They said that delivery time is between 2-3 weeks! One shop close here had all but oil pump in stock... They promised that I can have all the parts next friday...
I have tried to fix front fender flares. Someone had used angle grinder to give some space when using too big tires... All four corners were cut off....
Some pics...
I´ve started already. Installed that aluminium valve cover, because plastic one is now on an other Eagle engine. It is from first finnish Eagle...
It is kinda dead...
Some marks... and dirt...
Oil pan needed brass... There were tiny little holes almost through metal...
Yes, that chain is ready for the trash can. Did it make a lot of noise?
Today I finished the alternator, new bearing and brushes.
I wirebrushed it and painted with silver and then a lot of matt varnish... Like new aluminium... Idler pulley has new bearing, too.
How can I open this pulley (#15) ? There is a bearing inside, but is it impossible to open?
Jurgen is the expert on rebuilding those. IIRC he ground down the lip on the pulley that keeps the bearing in place. He used my dremel tool for that, then he pressed the new bearing with a proper sized socket, a hammer and a hunk of wood.
I just got the whole pulley , it wasn't that expensive..........I wonder how much the bearing is alone ??
I think I paid around $7 for it. It was put on Mav's red, now orange, SX/4 when he was still asleep.
That alternator looks brand new!! Did you replace the bearings and brushes yourself? My alternator is a bit worse for the wear and Im sure the bearings and brushes are needing to be replaced as well.
"Did you replace the bearings and brushes yourself?"
Yes, that was an easy job to do. Brushes are bolt-on and bearing needs a socket and hammer. It is under bolted cover. The other bearing is a roller type and it lives longer than the other...
I bought bearing and brushes from local dealer. There are repair kits available... Like this...
http://www.nippelit.fi/upload/5825/3107%20001.JPG
Now I try to open that upper idler pulley...
We have a "how to" on the alternator:
http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=13012.0
Alternator of "how-to"´s look like mine used to be... Black and full of dirt and rust...
I opened that pulley... my camera died...
EDIT: pics
Started grinding edge
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y228/JuhaP/eagle/002-3.jpg)
First I drilled a hole in the middle of pulleys bearing cap. Then I drilled a hole to a block of wood. And hammered bearing and its bolt out thru that hole.
Here are all ready to come together. Pulley, bolt, 6203 bearing and plug to cover pulleys hole.
Ready to use...

Very nice work, as usual.
Keep up the good work!

What's securing the pulley to the bearing? Is it simply an interference fit?
Woow this is some amazing work I plan on doing alot of the things in my eagle but right now my main focus is to get it road werthy
The new bearing is driven in (pressed) and they seem to stay put.
... and a drop of loctite to be on the safe side.

Gives me a second excuse to pull my cylinder head, and clean it up (the 200,000 mile lifters being the first), if I only had access to sandblasting equipment. Looks brand new :D
That is some impressive work there Juhap!!! That looks better than new!!
Beautiful engine!
I'm drooling for a full on pic of what's sitting next to the engine : )

Used to be on page 7, but picture issues. 65 american
is that one of the ones known as the machine?
NO , the machine was a bigger size, I think based on the Matador. That looks more like a "Scrambler" size based on the smaller 2 door Rambler.
That stars and stripes car is my 1965 Rambler American Hardtop 440H.
It is not a SC/Rambler or Rogue. There is a 360 under hood and 727 auto gearbox.
I´m trying to get my Photobucket OK, but it takes some time...
Today I bolted "new" trailer hitch on my Eagle.

New pics are coming nicely, and some of those old ones, too...
Impressive!
Very nice! :occasion14:
This trailer hitch comes from my Concord. That´s why it is "new". It is factory made, there has been a aluminium tag. Only thing left were rivets... Chromed hook was 3" too long because Concord has longer rear bumper. So I had to break it to pieces, cut it and weld together.

At last...
Good to have the engine back in. Congratulations!!
Congradulations!! That Eagle is going to be a real head turner!
Ive got a burning question I just have to ask ya, Its a bit off subject but....How rare are these cars over there? Were they ever sold over there or were they limited to the few that traveling americans brought over with them.
Eagles are very rare here in Finland. As far as I know we have now only 9 of these...
First one was imported by a private person who has his Eagle even today. He and his friends imported three more. They used local Jeep dealer to get these to Finland (shipping and such). My car came through U.S. Embassy in Finland. Three are private import by finnish people from european countries and one came from U.S. by a finnish lady... (that is in my garage, too)
Concords are very rare here also. I have seen only two of these. One 78 twodoor, very rusty parts car, and one 81 fourdoor. It is in my yard... It is possible that here are some more, but they are unknown to finnish AMC Club.
Here in Finland Ramblers and AMCs sold well, but after (if I remember right) 1974 finnish importer didn´t sell any AMCs, only european cars and Jeeps. After a couple of years Jeep got a new importer, finnish Chrysler dealer. So, still no AMCs.
It is summer... and holidays... and sun!
A lot of jobs to do...
Started painting rear hatch.

Have some black paint wainting. Now it needs little sanding and then paint. Black outside and brown inside.
It´s too hot now. Close 35 degrees! (celcius) close to 100 F... Cold beer... :occasion14:
Painted...

Hood and new insulation...
Nice, I think mine is from the same supplier.
I removed that cracked windscreen. And not a minute too early... There were some rust spots and such...
Upper corners had rust and there were some marks of tool hidden, paint had been damaged when someone changed the windscreen. No rust though...
And of course... a lot of dirt all over...
Wow! those seats look amazing!! Very well taken care of.
Front seat were very dirty. Previous owner had never cleaned them. The whole interior was completely mess, grease, dirt, mud... you name it.
I started rust removal. First manual and after that chemical, Citricacid does the work...
The dashboard was :censored: dirty. I started cleaning with soap and water. Then some spray... It looked like this. Job half done...
After heavy cleaning it looks like this...
Holy crap, did that ever come out great. Looks almost brand new from here.
Looks terrific! Well done!
talk about night and day. That came out nice. :o

It is almost impossible to send it back and get a new one instead...
what jeep model are those drums for?Iam searching for new ones for my eagle ,but they seem to be hard to find here in sweden.
I found this question....
"what jeep model are those drums for?Iam searching for new ones for my eagle ,but they seem to be hard to find here in sweden."
I bought Jeep Cherokee 1995 drums. Wagner # BD 125296. I couldn´t buy originals here in Finland, so Jeep parts are the only way.
My project had some progress. New windshield is on its place... Next thing is to polish it with ceriumoxide. So it´ll be better than new...
I'm more impressed with your work every time you post.
what part number is the tank, and did you get the thing complete? sending unit and float, or were they separate?
This tank came from American parts Depot.
This is it: 80-88 All except SX4 & Spirit Gas Tank 941 3001E $195.00
All other parts are sold separately... I used old sending unit, but bought new sender unit seal and lock.
If you are going to buy a tank from APD. Ask them if they have tanks that are welded right. Not backwards like mine!
Looking good as usual. Did you mix up the Citricacid gel solution you used or was that a commercial product.
That was home made...
Water (1 liter), acid (40g) and wallpaper adhesive (as much as needed).... Yammy, yammy...
I must say I'm really impressed with your progress on this ol bird.
Got this electric pedalcar finished to day... It took about 4 years to do!
My daughter can drive it but my son can´t anymore...
This is pic "before"... It is original Monza racecar.
Next step was to polish windscreen (and windows).
There were a nasty pair of wiper made marks, one both sides. After basic polishing I concentrated on these marks. And made them disappear... :hello2: I used tape to show where to polish.
I used these...
What did you use to polih the glass. Meaning what type or kind of polish is that
Teknofokus huh ? I don't think we have that over here,I like the name however ;D
They make compound specifically for glass (maybe what that stuf is?), you may be able to get away with using a micro finishing compound but I never tried it, I plan on trying it out on my old jeep though just for sticks and giggles, lol.
That polishing stuff is ceriumoxide. I mixed it with water and used it like any other rubbing compound.
Teknofokus is a finnish company that deals with optic components and materials. They use it making lenses, optic mirrors and such. I think that you can buy it in U.S., too...
Today I had time to do something. I had bought a new battery, normal size. It didn´t fit to battery tray. Someone had noticed that thing before and done some cutting and hammering.
I cut that tray in two and hammered that edge like it should be.
Then it was time to do some measuring... 7/8" it was or 22 mm.
Now it looks much bigger.
More welding and some testing. Tight fit... had to open little those bolt holes. Now final weld and then paint...

would like to have you work on my Eagles ...... Don
You would have to send your Eagle (s) to Finland
HI It would be easy er to bring hem to the U.S.A. I know we would like that ......Don
Started with rockers...
I had painted some sections before. Many years ago I did some underbody sandblasting and added some zinc paint. It turned to be not so good after all. (I used it when painting rockers of my daily driver and it cracked and let rust penetrate under it!)
This was the worst looking part, not blasted at all...
And after some TLC and elbow grease...
And the best of all... no rust holes! I knew that before, but there is always time for a surprise...
Good that you found no surprises! Glad that you found it before it got worse.
Paint it black..
Did you notice those two bottles... That makes your eyes clear and paint shiny...
(http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/jpihkanen/beer.gif) "Kippis" like we say in finnish...
Proost :occasion14: as they say in Holland!
A valance panel without dents?!?!?wow, didn't think many existed,kudos on a good job.oh and "slainte" :occasion14:
Painted front fender. First I had to strip paint that I painted last winter.
Then it was time to finish metalwork (grinding and sandblasting and a little bondo) and paint it with etching primer.
After that filler primer and sanding... and more primer...
Then it was time for black paint... I used spray can to do job... It is not polished yet...
"A valance panel without dents?!?!?" It wasn´t without dents... Closest corner had an old bondo repaired dent. I did it right way... And there was another one in the middle... needed little hammering.
Yesterday I did some I fixed bad paint. I used spray paint and rubbing compound. That´s bacause I bought a polishing machine...
There were two rust spots in this corner...
I found some nasty rust hidden behind hinges... Got drivers side finished yesterday...
Today I got my car lifter finally fixed... What was wrong with it? There was a blown fuse! This is electronically controlled Nussbaum car lifter. Fuse was hidden inside of the control unit. It wasn´t mentioned in any wiring diagrams! Oh´those germans...
Hey that rattle can paint works great if you know how to use it.
I keep seeing that British program where they buy old cars to fix and sell, the mechanic likes to use the rattle can on a lot of projects and dose a good job at it.
juhap I got and idea to increase your work load
Why not do a serpentine fan belt conversion?

My one-time employer had some MAN buses. When the factory people came across the ocean to show us Yankees about German buses they constantly referred to us technicians as " :censored:Americans", at least when they spoke English. I'm not saying they represented universal German attitude, but those particular people certainly weren't "goodwill ambassadors" :o
BTW, Juhap, your craftsmanship is superb. I continue to marvel at what you've accomplished. Here, have an egg and a quaff of German beer :occasion14:

What had happened to this old thread? I try to search those pics.
I couldn´t find any older topics... Some cleaning of the forum? Or what? Pity, if it is so... :banghead:
Are those "finnish eagles" threads and pics also gone... I don´t know... If so, that is bad, because i don´t have that information in any other place...
We have lost lots of older data in many boards. So far no one has been able to salvage it, but not for lack of trying.
"finnish eagles" is here: http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=9300.0;all
I´ve done something...
Right fender is finished. Painted with spray can. That large CB-antenna hole is gone and it has a place for an original AMC antenna.
Door openings got some TLC...
Drivers side wasn´t so bad, but there were nasty rust spot above the rearwheel...

That's what I like about black. Black -is black, is black, is black etc. Try matching any other color that way! I like what ol' Henry Ford said: "you can have any color, as long as it's black".

Willys is 1957 cj5 with 2 piece windshield.
Last week I did some rustremoval and bondo job...
There were a couple of nasty rust spots that had to be taken care of...

Hey that's your "304" post, but that looks like a little bigger than a 304 : ) though physically I know there is no difference in block size : ) 304,360,390,401.Looks awesome !!
It is a 360... and there is a tf727 connected. This engine is going to an other American and this stars & stripes HT is going to have a stock 360+th400... I´m trying to build a 90´s style pro street American some day... something like this one... I found this pic from web many years ago...

A "new" used valve cover from Ebay...
Now that is an odd piece, looks aluminum but retains the 2 center stud hold down application.........rare ??
I think that it is quite a rare item.
I started to search new valve cover to replace that leaking plastic thing as soon I bought this black Eagle. It was almost nine years ago. I tried to buy this though finnish dealers for some years. No luck. Then I discovered ebay some 6 years ago. No luck untill now.
I´m going to have it powder coated, so it looks like plastic one.
really ?? I would want to show it off. Way cool though , nice find.
Here it is powder coated and ready to bolt on...

Yeah, you could fool anyone. That thing looks like the stock plastic one now!
A little splash of AMC blue on the lettering would really set that cover off from the rest. Nicely done.

Agreed!!!
That valve cover looks amazing! Good job!
Just testing... looks good. ;)

Very nice! Btw Juhap, I was wondering if you had any tricks to cutting out rusty metal for weld prep? I'm just amazed by how you get pieces like the floorboards to look like they were never there!
Cutting is sometimes the most time consuming job to do. I use only angle grinder and different type of shears to do that job. In some cases I use spot weld drill and air chisel. If needed I cut in small pieces, carefully not to destroy anything.
Metal shaping needs careful planning and time... and finger tips if you aren´t careful enough... :censored:
Ok, I use an angle grinder, I guess it just takes a lot more practice. Now that you mention it, an air chisel probably would come in handy. Just got done cutting out most of the problem areas in my SX/4, it didn't turn out too bad.
Got this from "evil buy"... New rear window defogger switch.

This one isn´t forgotten, because I fixed bumper ends and right front fender flare, and then painted them black...
Here we are again...
Wagon has collected a lot of dust... But now it is time to start again. A finnish old car magazine wants to make a story of this ex-U.S.Embassy car... 8) You can see new wheels (Keystone Vortex) and BFG tires.
First thing is to fix driver side door. There´s some rust and at least three holes... >:(
(http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/jpihkanen/eagle/003-9.jpg)
It needs some wiring too... Hinges are "remanufactured"
Hello Juha, best wishes for the New Year and pls let us enjoy much more of this project.
The picture is showing a broken wire? This is the spot where they like to break.
Here we go again... Rust vs citric acid.
...better now ?

Keep up the good work!!

No need to tell him, he always does!
I hope I could do more, but this takes most of my time now...

Body filler time...

Hey Juhap,
See your building a log cabin! I built them for 16 years for others, plus one for myself. I currently work for Log Home Living Magazine now and also do the log home shows around the country.
I know its a bit off topic of eagles, but keep me up to date on your cabin project!
Thanks
Rob

actually i think that's a sauna he's building and not a cabin.
Ok, big sauna!
Or very small steamy cabin?

My vote is a hunting lodge or blind. That doubles as a sauna and Doghouse when the significant other gets mad..
My sauna project has some new logs.
Bigger room is sauna and smaller one is dressing room...

And I used citric acid to co-drivers door. It needed little welding and cleaning. Now it has etching primer and waits for bondo...
Hmm... no pics... >:D
Here we are... back to business... Bondoed co-drivers door

That sauna is gonna be SWEET! Oh yeah, and the Eagle too ;D
Thank you...
Sauna used to look like this...

Such an interesting " dovetail" on those corner joints.I have never seen one with that little added step to it.
Looks cool !! Nice job on the doors too.I just started dabbleing in some body work.Re-did a couple of Indian motorcycle fenders - man I gotta give you a egg, I can't believe how tough it is to make it perfect.
News flash....
Five weeks ago I painted front doors. I painted area under that golden stripe. Weather was fine and there were no flying insects.
So I sprayed the black paint. And after few seconds I had several mosquitos on my paint... While I cleaned my spray gun, the amount of bugs rised to hundreds... :censored:
Two days ago I started to sand and polish that bug paint...
Trying to get rid of bugs
(http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l590/jpihkanen/eagle/019-3.jpg~original)
See, no bugs on this one..

I've got some questions for you, please check your PM's
Almost nothing done... just some electric wiring reparations and front doors
Oh, my sauna is fantastic... ;)
Dang, that is a nice sauna. Now you just need the snow banks to roll in when you come out of it! From one (transplanted) Finn to another
Hey man, you Fins think you own the sauna ,?! Well. I grew up in northern Ontario, Canada, and we had TWO, one in the house, the other at the cabin. We used to roll out of it in Jan/Feb, naked, temp. at something stupid below zero, roll in the snow, and get back in. Do it again! And again! Then go drink some good Canadian whiskey. Boys AND girls! Ah, old times, good times!
Anyways, just joking with you. The Finn Sauna really is the best. (but the above is true)
As for your Eagle, lots of work to be done, but it is a great undertaking. If you need any help or parts, please ask, we will try to help. BTW, I live in the USA, but I am from CZ.
good luck, gz
At last something happens...
Took roof lining out ...
and cleaned it an did some reparations...
Made some rust removal and painted those areas...
Lining on its way back...

Looks nice...
Looks very nice!!
Front seats bolted on... at last...
And I had to paint Door Armrests because they were so faded and there were some cracks...
I wouldn't have covered the dovetails... I love woodworking and beautiful joints are a sign of great craftsmanship.
Oh, you mean that sauna building...
I wanted to restore my old sauna as it was before in its old place... It looks very traditional finnish sauna now. Painted with oldfashioned colors and paints.
My parents have a different kind of traditional sauna with uncovered corners. That is unpainted loghouse, about 200 years old.
It's gorgeous. I aspire to that kind of quality. My joints don't always fit tight. Sometimes I have to finagle things a little bit. wet and crush the joints a little and do some sanding, lol. It looks good when it's done.
Thanks to Photobucket this thread is destroyed... I´m sorry folks... :censored:
I use Flickr for photo hosting. they haven't charged yet.
Or just load directly to hear. We do not need a third party host hear.

My problem is finding the old photos. I also don't know what photos were where. Unless I pay for a month and move all the photos to this server, all my threads will be ruined like so many others.
right click on the thing, then 'open image in new tab'. This loads it on photobucket's site instead of through the forum, and you can see the picture. Still a PITA. Maybe the images could globally be replaced with iframes for the url which loads the whole web page in there but that would be a really clunky workaround.
I'm having the same problem, and my build thread looks like garbage. Thanks Photobucket!
You don't need to pay them in order to download your photos to your hard drive. When you download them, they are named with the random photobucket names so in theory you could upload them somewhere else and just edit your thread to point to the new server but keep the actual file name unchanged. Still a lot of work.
I found a possible workaround on another forum and I've tested it on a couple posts of mine. Apparently you can add the text ~original to the photobucket address right after the .jpg and it will load again. So update your posts to say something like www.photobucket.com/blahblahblahblahblah.jpg~original and it will work.
THey will probably catch onto this trick pretty quickly but it seems to work so far.
What a PITA!!! I literally have hundreds of photos posted on various forums on the web and there is no way I'm going back to all my threads to fix them so I guess all my hard work to help out on different forums is also ruined!
Thank you for that advice! :hello2: I tested it on previous page and it works! :occasion14: So far....
Happy to help. I bet it won't last very long, but I'm in the same boat!
