Title: Head bolts for the 4.0
Post by: maddog on June 20, 2023, 06:45:02 PM
So I finally got my engine block and everything else back from the machine shop (they've only had it since September of 2020). I noticed one of the things I didn't get with it is head bolts, but I've also noticed that the ARP ones don't have the studs for the fuel rail or a few other things on top of the bolts. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a good source for head bolts that match the original ones but are stronger than the original ones, because the engine is being built as a stroker motor that's been bored 30 over.

Thank you guys. rmick I've seen a lot of bad reviews from fairly recent for the felpro ones. And I'll check out that website gz.

So I've been looking and I can only find head bolts for 97+ engines and mine is a 91. Would those actually work on my engine or is there a different thread pattern or something with the later model ones? Even the parts stores said they can't get them for my engine.

So after doing some research I have found that the arp bolts are the same part number for 86 through 96 as they are for 97 through 06. The only real difference I can find between the ones that I took off of my engine and the ones from felpro for the newer model engines is that the head of the bolts is a 12-point head on the new ones and a regular hex head on the old ones with the 12 point heads having a stem above two of the heads for lining up the valve cover gasket.
