Hello,
I am thinking about putting a v8 under the hood of a 1981 kammback. Is this an easy swap and what engine should i look at swapping?
The issue with swapping in a V8 into an Eagle is finding an alternative way to mount the front axle, which, from the factory, attaches to the 258 engine. The question has been posed many times on this forum but it is rarely actually attempted and even fewer times done successfully. At one time there was a member that manufactured some mounts which allowed people to put in a V8 and retain the 4WD components. I forget his name and I don't think he has been on for many years.
Good luck!
The easiest way to improve power is to go with a stroker engine. put on your oil pump and pan from the eagle and bolt right in

thank you. Great idea.
You could also add fuel injection to it and will need a 4.0 exhaust manifold and modify the axle bracket to get the axle to clear the exhaust. Plenty of info on here about installing a 4.0 head and fuel injection
Found the thread about the mounts that were made by one of the forum members:

As I said, I don't know if he still makes them or not.
I would echo rmick's comments, a stroker engine with fuel injection added may be the best way to go.
thank you
