Title: Temp Sensor?
Post by: DIREWOLF on June 16, 2017, 01:12:06 PM
Hi Everyone,
I was hoping someone could tell me what kind of senor this is in the pic below?
And where I can get a new one and/or what the part number is please?
It's on an 82 AMC Eagle SX/4 Sport. 4.2L, Inline 6, Manual Tranny if that helps... :)

Thanks in advance.

That's the coolant temperature sensor. You only need it if you still have the factory computer hooked up. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/standard+motor+products,TX27,temperature+sender+/+sensor,4748

The Mechanic that is working on my car says that's not it though. I found that sensor and showed him yesterday.
I think hes going off looks, but I'm not sure. Is this part just a newer style that does the same thing, works as it should but doesn't look the same???

There's a chance the new doesn't look exactly the same as the  old one,Ziti but the  connector should be the same. Is a connector on the one in your car? Looks like the wires might have got pulled out.

Thanks everyone. I will get one and see if it works as y'all say it should.
My temp gauge inside doesn't work, do you think this will remedy that problem as well?

Thanks again.  :)

hi, no it will not. the above sensor only tells the computer its information. btw, your computer is behind pass side kick panel. Hope that it is good, or no amount of sensors will make your car run well. Afaik, that (82) computer is no longer available, but if it hasn't been messed with, should be OK. The temperature sensor for the gauge inside is located at the rear drivers side of the head, should have a green/purple wire with a bullet connector on it. Those are still available. Standard #TS219, or equivalent, at any parts store.
BTW, if you plan on keeping this car, I HIGHLY recommend you purchase a TSM, available on ebay for small $$. good luck, gz

Thank for the info. I already purchased a TSM, and I have a Chiltons, but their with the car at the Shop. If I had them with me, I would be using them rather than asking on here. :)

Thanks again.
