Title: New guy here!
Post by: SparkyB on January 30, 2017, 11:21:36 AM
Couldn't pass this up! 83 Eagle, 2" lift, bilstein shocks, new tires, overall in very good shape. Transfer case grenaded so that's first on the list.

Very nice!  I'm a few months into my project, doing a lift and similar build.  Looks like you are already ahead of me, dangit!

What's your plan for the transfer case?  Maybe we can compare notes...I am considering an upgrade to a Jeep transfer case with low gear.  Probably an NP242 from what I've read.

I'm thinking of a 229. One of our local yards has a couple of FSJ  that  I need a few parts off of anyways.  They had an Eagle there that had an interior fire but the drivetrain was fine, but why not go ahead and swap in  a transfer case I want right??

Makes sense.  From what I've read the FSJ floor shifter works well with the Eagle floorpan.  I thought the NP242 would be nice to retain the full-time option, and thought I could find a donor XJ easily.  So far it's elusive, and I've become very confused on the input shaft lengths and the multiple options.  Eventually I'll drop the trans and measure, but have focused on the suspension and maintenance so far.

Good luck with your project!

229 is a full time case, also. It just doesn't have 4 hi part time like the 242.

I am diggin the stance on this thing! The Wagoneer has a 3" lift and 31's for reference.

That does have a nice stance! I spy Colorado plates! I'm a neighbor over in Utah. I'll actually be in Grand Junction on Wednesday.

Whoops, I keep thinking of the 231 in my daily driver Jeep Wrangler.
