Here are some recent photos of a 1985 Inaugural Edtion Eagle including views of the unique ID plate mounted on the glove box door, the keyless entry receiver module between the sun visors and the bottom portion of the build sheet.

Looks like they were using the AMC Renault keyless entry -- had the same one in a '84 Alliance. Thanks much for the extra pix.
What are "Kraytons"?
Kratons: What you put in salads. Oh, wait, those are "croutons." ;D Kratons are the flexible parts that are the bumper extensions, the fender flares, and flexible rocker trim. Kraton is also the material they were made out of.
Yes, the Keyless Entry was the same as in Renaults. At the CT AMO show, (where the Inaugural car was,) I was talking w/ a former AMC Zone Manager, about my new SX-4 w/ Keyless Entry, and he said it was the Renault item.
Kraton was a plastic produced by AMC's plastics subsidary' although I think Shell actually held the patent. Few people know AMC did their own plastic work.
Now that sure looks like a well care for AMC Eagle Wagon Presidential edition.
I know this is old, but if peole want to see an AMC Eagle with Keyless Entry, they should not have to go this far to the back
It was a Renault unit. AMC put it in their cars when they started putting them in the Alliances they were building. One of the service information bulletins I just put in the Eaglepedia talks about it.
I had not seen these pictures before. That is a really cool Eagle.
2 cars over in the top picture looks like a Sundancer
Really nice pics! What exactly does it mean that it inaugural? In car lingo that is...
Also... if I already have power locks... whats would it take to make it keyless? I suppose I could just take it up to the shop that does the remote start stuff... im sure they could do it.
I have a build sheet for an Inaugral Eagle supplied to me by a member who has one. I need to post that some day. Unless I already have.
Probably in the high $15K range. Ironically, they were built in Brampton, Ontario.
WHy is tht ironic?
They were for President Reagan's inauguration and built by American Motors Canada.
That is very, very true.
Like the Pontiac Beauville and Firefly (maybe not the Firefly)
That thing is nuts. A bute and a half. Absolutely perfect for the 1985 inauguration; way to go federal government. That car back there does look like a Sundancer.
I think I'd rather have one of thee than a Sundancer
Or both, along with a turbo diesel.
I remember seeing this car at a show... I believe Kenosha 2002? Love the white out, definitely...
Is DESA's white Wagon one of these or is it just an all white one? I thought this was one of the only all white Eagles produced.
I am not sure
Nope DESA's is an 88. I just found it.

Is that why it's so hard to find new plastic parts for AMC's?
The molds are probably long gone.
Did the government actually buy these, and were they used in the inauguration?
Or did AMC build them for a promotion to coincide with the inauguration?

Iowaeagle said they were used in president reagans inaugeration in an earlier post

would really like to have one of these for the sheer odd historical fact that they were used in the inaguration.
I am not sure. That is a great question Jim.
I'd say they were donated. I doubt it would say "Promotion" on the sticker if the govt just bought them outright. And besides, when the govt wants a car for the weekend... do you think they have them all specially made to have all the extras and stuff? Idk...
I bet the govt didn't pay a penney, but I wonder who's idea it was... I'd still assume AMC, but seriously - there's no telling. It's just the way it's built to be more of an advertisement than simply a car, ya know? In my experience.... stuff like only happens when someone is really trying to "kiss @--" for a contract - and usually those things are freebies meant to intice.. but again - it's purely speculation on my part.
Probably built for the occasion . Used for the occasion. And then sold thru area dealers for a nice price.
"--used in the inauguration--" could mean driven in the parade, or used to ferry around dignitaries, or flunkies running errands, or whatever.
I suppose that is what I was really curious about, and whether all 50 were used. (I think I saw that 50 were built.)
One for each State? Now if AMC was thinking they should have given one to each State Governor, after the inauguration.
Even the democrat-leaning states????
Why not. All politicians like donations.

My 86 is all white and the build sheet lists 9B Olympic White as both the main color and trim color.

I like that Eagle DESA. Actually, to be more accurate, I like both of your Eagles.

Nice Mustang SVO in the background!!!
Thanks. I owned it for 22 years and got rid of it last year. I traded it to a guy who was going to install a Ford 5.0 and a solid front axle into my 81 but due to life challenges I had to abandon the project. The new owner of the SVO put a huge turbo on it, turned up the boost and threw a rod through the block a few weeks after getting it and then parted it out. >:(
It's amazing how many people have NO IDEA about how rare a vehicle is, then commence on ruining them!!!!
There is an all white 1986 for sale in Portland, OR (Hillsboro) with 70,000 miles on it...listed online.

I saw that! There is actually TWO!!! Another one in Colorado that is a WHITEOUT SEDAN! How cool is that, an all white sedan... too far for me tho lol but looks crazy cool!
I live in Colorado...wish I would have seen it :banghead: The one i just got is rust on rust...literally LOL
Shan you got read of that didn't you ...That is one nice car..Don
I got rid of the 86 sedan after I got Ginger, my 83 wagon. I stripped about everything of use off that 86...not much there really, metal was rusty and the plastics were very dry rotted and cracked...I was able to get a good headlight trim for Tougeagle off it and I kept some drive train parts but to be honest I think it was someone Else's parts car when I bought it...Its all good though Ginger is in excellent shape and a much more practical and cost effective project...And don't worry, the 86 didn't go to the crusher, its getting turned into mudder/rockcrawler by this guy that lives up here..hes does all kinds of extreme custom 4x4 stuff so I know that car will have an interesting life...he turned a chevette into a small block mudder so I can only imagine what the 86 will get turned into....Ill hafta follow up on it... could make for an interesting topic.
HI Your right there .very interesting .I think the Nester's would like a good follow up story with of coerce pictures..way to go .You have dune a lot of work to Ginger already...............Don After Thought are you to going change the color on ginger
Ive put some serious thought into it...But the problem is I dont want to have to repaint all the door jambs and engine bay...its a lot of work and a whole lot more $$$money. Im just gonna shoot her with a fresh coat of Olympic White...I am seriously considering doing a full white out though to make her look more like the Inogural Eagle in this post...I might even do the bumpers white too....Im still on the fence with that though....Id love to make it an Inogural clone.
HI that sounds good ..Its a go on every thing .but not the bumpers ...A little shinny is the right way..will look good......Don
When done right the "white out" wagons look good.
Both of those are wicked looking. I didn't think white on white would look good, but it does. Great pics.

HI your ARE ABSALOUTLE RIGHT Don
Shiny parts and non integrated bumpers are nice. Some younger folks think our bumpers are falling off because they are not integrated.
I think im gonna leave em chrome...The more I thought about it the more Im thinking that the painted bumbers would look tacky...Maybe my next Eagle project Ill try it, but gingers too nice to experiment on, and I really want her to remain true to the stock eagle form.
HI I AM glad to hear that Ginger can smile now ..I-E I under stand about the Integrated bumper sys for the last 25 years or so its no chrome .some of the car makers are putting chrome stripes where the bumpers were......Don
