Title: Vacuum to Manual Front Axle Disconnect Question.
Post by: kevindpm61 on November 14, 2015, 08:00:26 AM
The vacuum disconnect system on our 1983 SX/4 was in horrible condition. I removed the vacum components and did the hose clamp lockout on the front axle. I'm thinking that I would like to convert the front axle to a manual lockout using a locking T-handle cable. I have researched cables and have found those with 3 1/2 inch travel and 2 inch travel. I was wondering if anybody has an idea how much movement the vacum system produced to activate/ deactivate the front axle?

I found out how much travel the vacuum system creates through some research. Looks like it is 0.65 in based off one of the vacuum diagrams.

I think it's double that for some reason. Metric, maybe?

I am just going off of the axle section in the EPedia which shows .640 inch max travel  in figure 2F-5
