I just purchased an 88' Eagle and had it shipped to me in CO, from MO. I absolutely love the car and want to get it running as well as possible so I can make it a daily driver/guide rig. The previous owner told me all the car needs to have done is to rebuild the carburetor as the car sometimes does not shift into gear properly, and as I understand that has to do with the vacuum off the carb? What should I do in order to get my Eagle running like a top? Should I get the carb rebuilt or is there a better option in buying a new one?

Welcome to the site and good luck with your Eagle. From your user name I'm guessing you're up in the Steamboat Springs area? I live just outside Denver.
There is no vacuum operation of the Eagle's transmission. There is a TV rod, throttle valve rod, that some call a kickdown rod or cable. It's adjustment is critical for proper operation of the transmission.

Vacuum does operate the 4wd system, if it's not working properly some times the tcase will not fully engage and it will not go anywhere, kinda like it won't go into gear.

Have you driven the car to check out the problem? Mine does not shift into gear properly because the linkage from shifter to trans is out of adjustment . I'm to lazy to get all covered in grease and oil and readjust it ,because unlike everyone else's car , mine leaks. I just pull the shifter between drive and 2nd and then it has no issues shifting through the other gears.
