Title: harmonic balancer alternatives.
Post by: shanebo on January 02, 2015, 09:05:06 AM
It appears my 81 sx4 is in need of a new harmonic balancer. A few years back (like 10.years ago) I was able to buy one at AutoZone....well, now no one in my area has one for an AMC Eagle, at least that's what their computer says. However they have them for the Jeep 258's of the same year. Is this the same part?

I believe so, I ran into the same thing with mine when I rebuilt my engine, my old one the rubber part had disintegrated and I needed a new one

I ended up buying one from someplace EagleFreek suggested on here, maybe damper doctors or something like that, maybe he will chime in on this

If you have the single groove Vee belt, rock Auto has a ATP brand 102007 for $64 plus shipping. I'm lucky in that I have a balancing shop here that I can get my stuff through or he can have mine redone. I'm going to serpentine belt on the AMC 290 in my '68 Travelall eventually by using the outer ring from a 4.0L, 4.2L or possibly something else altogether on the original belt hub.

J3225201 is the OEM number which on Ebay comes to V1071 from Crown for $57 with free shipping (to Seattle)
