Greetings
I'm looking to pull my engine to so a 727 swap and to replace a broken exaust manifold
It seems like it would be easier to do both those things together with an engine removal instead if from above and below. Feel free to comment on that idea
Anyway I would like to pull the engine and transmission out together, swap out manifold and transmission and reinstall the whole thing.
Removing the engine and transmission, other than all the associated connections, motor mounts. Alternator. Power steering, connections to front differential, radiator for clearance, ect
Anything else to look out for?
Welcome to the Den
I don't think you can pull the whole assembly intact from the top, I pulled mine separately. Its an extremely tight fit just getting the engine out of there. I have pulled engine and transmission as a unit on non 4WD AMC's (Spirits, Gremlins, Concords) and it will work, but on an Eagle the Tcase is just too huge in my opinion to fit, plus its off center
However I think you could pull it all toghether from underneath. If you dropped the front diff and cross members and raised the car body up for removal
I seem to remember seeing a thread with pics on here somewhere about this operation
Drop the transfer case and the engine and trans can tilt out as a unit. However if the trans is not entirely drained its messy. Kind of a no brainer there. Also drop the front axel than tilt and pull. Its still tight, but i have done it with the ac condensor in place.
It's easier to pull the manifold, remove the trans/tcase and leave the motor in place. The top bolts are much more accessible with the manifold gone. When we did SOTE, I cut the rad saddle in each side and we put teh motor and trans together through the front. Saved the piece from the parts rig so it bolts in place now.
Great sounds good. I have to replace the exaust manifold anyway, so ill pull the manifolds and the transfer case the. The tranny. Sounds more doable.
Thanks for the insight and Insperation
