I recently acquired a 1988 eagle. A graduation gift from my parents, the best gift I could ever imagine. I am in the process of restoring it up a little bit and have a question about the hood. It has been starting to bend pretty bad on both sides towards the back where the hinges connect to it. Every time i try and pull the hoof down it bends more and more. I was wondering if this is something that usually occurs on this particular model and How to go about fixing the problem? Thanks
Welcome. Glad you appreciate your gift. The hood hinge problem is common. Hopefully someone has a fix for you. I'm currently having the same issue.
Welcome to the Den and congrats on your first Eagle!
From my experience, the problem you're having is caused by hinges that are rusty/corroded/gummed up. Try lubricating them well and hopefully that will solve the problem! Good luck!
The same problem with the hood hinges on older Hornets as well (the design is just flawed and it's the same on both cars), I just removed the springs from the hood which stops the bending and then the hood closes properly. However then you'll have to start carrying around a baseball bat to keep the hood open if you need to look inside... This is what I do with the Hornet, happily the hinges are still good on my Eagle.
"yes officer, the baseball bat is there just for engine repairs" ;D
Check all fasteners for tightness. As mentioned earlier, clean and lubricate all moving parts and see if that helps.
Keep all pivot points lubricated, well lubricated. Never had a problem with hood bends.
Thanks to all of you for the advice and welcoming, Ill keep updated with results. Glad to be a part of the den.
Yup. Lubed hinges work wonders. Doors too!
