Title: Np229 conversion- speedo gear
Post by: fischrman on August 09, 2014, 02:14:12 PM
Do I use the cable and gear from the 129 or the insert and gear from the 229?   They look like they are different sizes and I don't want to break something forcing it in

The one from the 129 will work. The drive gear in the transfer cases are the same size. The driven gear that connects to the cable gets changed for different gear ratios and tire sizes. If you look at the speedometer gear housing, you'll see numbers on it which is a range of the number of teeth on the driven gear. You need to line up the mark the corresponds with your gear to a line on the transfer case. Keep the NP229 one. If you ever need to change your gear for different gear ratio or tire size, it is much easier to find a gear for that one than the one that comes in the Eagle. You will have to change to a different cable though.

Eagle one is the same as 70's Dodge car with 727.

I misplaced my bottle of those (gleaned from parted cars). Try a Jeep/4x4/Dodge shop.
