Title: Class 3 hitch
Post by: 4hammond on May 27, 2014, 04:39:07 PM
Has anyone installed a class 3 receiver on an 85 eagle. I went to do it the other day but noticed that the frame is boxed and I would not have acess to the top nut if I drilled the hole for the receiver unless I also drilled out the side of the frame. Anyone done one of these.

Mine included instructions for using a wire to feed a nut down the subframe. It was a pain, but doable. I may have enlarged a hole to help things fit.

Did you have to remove the rear bumper?

I didn't have to remove the bumper. I did have to remove the cover over the gas tank.

I used the brackets for the rear bumper and a 1/2 H style hitch with removable insert. It was actually Class 4 rated, but because the car is unibody the hitch shop couldn't certify it for that. The legs mounted to the outside of the frame with sleeves inside the box, a plate on the outside and inside for added strength.
