Ok so my old slave basically exploded, you guys shoulda seen the amount of rust and corrosion in there. I bought a correct slave and put it in. Let me tell you how glad I was it was on the OUTSIDE of the bell housing;). Gravity bled until clean fluid came out. Topped off, then proceeded to purge the air with my right hand on the clutch and my left working the bleeder attached to a clear hose leading into a container. Every ten pumps I'd top off the reservoir. I'm certain NO air got in from the res. I did this for about an hour or two. Still NO pressure. I also bought a vacuum bleeder and bled it that way and reverse bled the system trying to get all the air out. The master would pump the fluid through just fine in the amount you would expect.
Two things, 1- There is a psst sound then air bubbles and the very very bottom of the clutch pedal about every 10 pumps. 2- When installing the slave I accidentally pressed the clutch pedal to the floor fully extending the slave. I thought I pushed it all the way out but it went back in and there was no fluid loss.
Everything I can see there are no leaks, so either air is getting in somewhere or? The master functions normally as far as I can tell. With the res cap off and full of fluid I press the clutch pedal and the fluid level in the res does NOT rise( fluid rising being an indication that the master is bad).
Is the slave bad? Is the master bad? Is it really just air in there and if so can I use some Teflon tape on the upper part of the threads on the slave? I mean there is NO pressure after bleeding/purging for almost two hours. Can I cap off the line leading to the slave to test the master? Anything I'm missing? It was FINE until the slave went.
PLEASE HELP??!!
Thank you
The master seals the line through compression and not the threads. Sounds like the rust took it out.
Yea I think so. I found a leak where the line went into the slave, sealed that up, I bled again then removed the slave and pumped by hand. Pumped easy except when the master was making a vibrating sound like the seal was flopping.
Do you know where to get a new master?
Dorman CM39516
Check rockauto
Thanks, they specify an engine number/keep in mind that my sx4 was originally an automatic/ where is the engine code number?
Should be 4 vs 6 only. I would see if you can get a kit cheaper than the whole thing. They often are the same as some '70sToyota cars.
Oh really ok. That helps. Yea rock auto has a reman one for $36 I think I'll pop on that one. If my slave is any indication I'm sure my master is rotted out too. Do you have any additional info on the Toyota ones? Part number year make model?
Thanks
It should say what bore it is on the side. Which bolt pattern is it? pic?
I found the id plate between spark plug 3-2.
It says 504C24. I'm pretty sure the only important info is the "C", indicating it's the 258 6cyl.
This site has codes and info on how to decipher them.

What do you mean? Bolt pattern of what?
My pics are to big to post
So according to the Amc code decipher site the engine was made in 1985 April 24 and a 258 il6
504C24
5=1985
04=April
C=258 il6
24=24th day of April
So my car is a 1981 DL 50 sx4 but the engine is from a 1985. No wonder it runs so nice.
