Title: SR4 to T5
Post by: DownwardFlame on April 24, 2014, 11:36:12 AM
I'm looking to replace my sr4 with a t5 and I'm wondering which vehicles I should be looking at to get the transmission and be able to do a direct swap. Or at the very least just transfer parts from the sr4 to make it work.

For a 4x4 one, check out the late model CJs '82 up.

Eagles and Jeep CJ's are your only option for a direct bolt in 4x4 T5.

Well, since I'm still considering the Ford 2.3 swap, I know I'm not going to find a direct "bolt in." I'm just weighing my options and seeing what I can make work.

More info please. Turbo?  I considered a 2.3T swap a while back. I don't see why the AMC T5 won't work with a 2.3 T5 bellhousing since a Ford T5 works with an AMC bell.  A bellhousing from a 87-88 Turbocoupe would be best since they are hydraulic.

I haven't decided if I want to turbo it yet or not, but I bought a 2.3 and 5 speed off of my coworker for $25. I orginaly thought he was selling his old pinto race motor and an sr4, but it turns out its a wreaking yard drive train from a 2wd ranger. I know it needs a rebuild, and I figured that rebuilding the 2.3 would be more beneficial than rebuilding the 2.5. My goal is a good 150-200 HP and a 5 speed swap for the overdrive.

The turbo 2.3 block, pistons and rods are different than the NA version.

Are we talking about a gas 2.3 or the Mitsubishi 2.3 turbodiesel found in the older Ranger pickups?

Ford Lima 2.3 turbo. The pistons and the head are the only difference on a Ford 2.3t. It uses the same block(except for a boss and a hole for turbo drain), cam, crank and rods as a standard 2.3. I owned a Mustang SVO for over 22 years.
