Title: Broken automatic shifter cable
Post by: MudPuppy on March 31, 2014, 11:49:31 PM
This is what I am dealing with. At least this is one of the better looking jerry-riggin's I have seen. Though it's not a huge deal yet, I will probably get it fixed sometime.

I am trying to find where I can get an automatic shifter cable and what steps there are to install one.

I have looked and the only thing I can find that refers to this is Jimmy's (rip) thread http://forums.amceaglesden.com/index.php?topic=36358.msg292453#msg292453

I have so far looked on APD & KennedyAmerican and see nada.
Where does one find an automatic shifter cable?

There has to be others that have had this problem and have fixed it properly.

The shifter is similar, if not the same to some older Mustangs. I did some quick searching on the net and found some cables for 60's Mustangs, but have no idea if they are the same or the right length. I have my shifter from when I did the AW4 swap, however, after removing it I noticed the cable was frayed and I couldn't get the darn thing to work right after taking the handle off and putting it back on.
They look identical to the mid 70's Mustangs.

Eaglefreek is correct (of course)

you can use one from a Mustang 2 or also Pintos of the mid to late 70's

I found one at the pick n pull on a pinto and its identical, although its more cromey

You can also buy them new online from restoration places for Mustang 2's, Vangremlin posted a link sometime back on where to get one, I have also seen them on ebay from time to time

Thanks EagleFreek & Amc1320 I remember reading about (on the Den facebook page I believe) the Mustang II shifter being similar to ours.
Will probably have to go that route when/if I can find a cable that'll work.
Even the Mamba's cable is broken, so I can't even steal the parts car's.

Surely someone has had their cable break on them and knows where to get a new one or what out there works ?

I have the one from my '77 AMX I had I was going to compare to the one in my Eagle but health issues have kept me from doing much these past couple years.
