Title: Retrofit Seat Belt With Shoulder Strap
Post by: mental1896 on March 12, 2014, 10:47:55 AM
My kids ride in my Eagle nearly every day and we still use the stock lap belts. Whenever I have to do a hard stop, my kids will occasionally bump their little heads on the backs of the front seats. So I was shopping around for retrofit kits and found quite a few options. I was just wondering if anyone else has done this and if they might be able to point me in the right direction.

Realize this is an old post but im interested too. I think the biggest problem would be the C pillar isnt reinforced and designed to take the strain of the attached seatbelt.

I'm in the middle of modernizing my Eagle and I was going to look into something of this nature.

The pillar could be cut into and modified by welding a nut on the inside, drilling a hole to it and welding back in but it would still be relatively weak compared to reinforced metal. It would probably hold up though.

Another thought is to look for a seat belt that loops over the back of the seat and connects to the floor behind it. I have seen it in an SUV but I can't remember which one. It struck me as odd, but a good way to retrofit more of a modern belt to the Eagle.

It would be pretty dissapointing to hit the brakes and have the bolt for the shoulder belt just pop out. I think it would be a great idea to go from the floor. It would certainly be easier to cover up reinforcment work on the rear floor.

I'm going to start looking at seat belts for convertibles

I did a nut in the C pillar that had a long plate attached. I put a hole in where I wanted the nut (after inspecting a hacked off one) I don't know where those photos went, but many seem to have "disappeared" from my online albums. Someone got my password for photobucket and screwed with those too.

I believe  it is the Chevy trailblazer that has the belt over the back of the rear seat for the center passenger
