pretty soon a big addition will be coming to Cheyenne, the steam engine known as, big boy no. 4014 will be brought back to be restored at the U.P. steam yard here in Cheyenne. http://www.up.com/newsinfo/community_ties/2014/january/0120_4014_departure.shtml when it comes in I hope to get some nice pictures to post. hopefully with my eagle in the picture. ;D LAZ
Its been a long time coming
Very cool
Love steam engines, have visited a lot of museums and ride them as often as I can
I've had the good fortune to see UP's two other operating steam locomotives...Northern #844 and Challenger #3985...under steam and on the rails. They are awesome sights, even for someone like me who, as a kid in Chicago, regularly saw steam locomotives. Nothing, however, compares to the Big Boy. They were UP's largest steam locomotives, and I'm excited to think a Big Boy may run again in my lifetime.
Cheyenne is less than two hours' drive from Denver. I should think it possible for a bunch of AMC Eagles to meet the Big Boy when it arrives in Cheyenne. :eagle:
The only "downside" is that Big Boys are limited as to where they can run. They need gradual curves, increased loading clearance and fairly level grades.
it should be great when it gets here. this has been in the works for at least 5 years or more. ;D LAZ
You mentioned an old steamer.. As a kid there is something I enjoyed and admired. was not close to them to hear them they were gone when I came around but....
