Title: Coles SX4 Projects
Post by: Cole1986 on December 01, 2013, 07:10:12 PM
Thought I might share the fun. This weekend, after many years of dreaming, I finally started my project. I started with pulling the engine so I can start rebuilding it. Then onto the dash....or something....who knows. Wish me luck guys and if you have any tips or comments please join in. I hope to update on this poll as much as I can, so hold me to it.

I've had my eye on those since I had TQ, now with Penny I'm not as worried about the paint, but it still might be good for gripping tools and what not!

Awesome! Glad I could spread the word. I'm sure the seller appreciates me linking everyone! I feel like in the past I had made a thread for this item. Didn't seem to get the attention this random post did! :) I'll have to add this to my Christmas/Bday list! :)

Finally able to get out and do some more work. The weather hasn't been above freezing for almost two weeks. I was glad to find all the interior trim and dashboard all intact with no cracks. It was fun trying to get the drivers seat out with the transfer case in the way....better not forget to put the seat in before I put the transfer case back in. Have to replace the carpet, anybody know the best way to do so? Is there a company that sells them that anyone recommends? Let me know thanks

Hold the camera more steady for one! :)

Also I use Photobucket to host all my photos. Then you just copy/paste the IMG code in for the picture you want to show.

Wait. So...they make things to not get oil on your car, keep tools from dropping, and prevent you from hurting your fist wanting to punch something? What the heck? I never knew these existed. Must get one. (Some of this was sarsasm and some not...I seriously never knew there were things to put over your fender to prevent such things....)

I am still waiting for mine to show.  According to the seller, who responded very quickly to my lament, they found out it was sitting at the post office for some reason.  Apparently, they just learned today it is finally on its way.

So I've been making some really good progress, but I've ran into some trouble. I've been trying to get all the steering parts off but nothing will come apart even after I took all the bolts and nuts off. If anyone has an idea please let me know.

dang, I love your sedan (never knew that was owned by someone here!)  sx4 is also a copy to mine when I get it!  I've been looking for a steering wheel wrap like that (not a cover) for a while.  any idea where to get one?  I really like the look.

Nice! I envy you. My SX4 is the same color even but is such worse shape.. It makes me sad, I'm gonna have probably 15-20 hours to fix the rust on mine. Probably paid more for it too.

You need to use a pickle fork or balljoint puller to remove most of  the steering parts. You will need a pitman arm puller to remove the pitman arm from the steering box.

Thanks eaglefreek! Got everything off as far as the steering components go. I used the pickle fork for some and it did a little damage to the dust boots. Anyone know where I can find replacements for them?

You may be able to get boots by themselves from Energy Suspension, they make nice polyurethane boots that won't tear like the stock ones. If you're replacing all the stuff, the parts should come with the boots.

I just messaged you back (finally haha). By the looks of the work you've done so far, I have no doubt that you would be able to make up your own exhaust for the 4.0 head. It just takes a little bit of patience and ingenuity.
