Title: Race Project
Post by: DownwardFlame on October 12, 2013, 08:07:05 PM
Hey guys, been quite awhile since I posted on here, but I finally got back to my eagle. It was my step dad's car and he parked it out by his hay field about 20 years ago. In '09 I think it was, I drug it out and got it running as a high school project so that I had a car I could drive in the winter. Well, long story short, I bought a truck instead and the eagle got pushed to the back burner. The last two years I have been getting fairly active in local mud track racing, running an '84 Mazda 626. The Mazda is on its last leg and only has maybe one race left in it, so I am planning on building the eagle for next season. The 258 had about 16,000 miles on a rebuild when it was parked and runs fairly well. The transmission might be another story though as it slips pretty good... I will be building custom tube bumpers front and rear as well as installing a full roll cage, partial exocage, and chassis reinforcement. I already have an MSD ignition system and high output coil on the way. I am also planning on building a blow through turbo setup and have been doing lots of research. Does anyone have any experience running the offenhouser four barrel intake on an eagle?
Anyway, here are some pics of what the car looks like now.

The seats and brackets were another high school project and need to be reworked so that you can sit in the car and not rub your head on the ceiling.

I still have most of the trim pieces and the front bumper if anyone is interested in them.

Do you still have the grill?

Yes I do, I think it might have one broken mounting tab but I'd have to look at it again to double check. It is missing the eagle emblem though... I'm not sure where it went, I'd have to do some more digging to find it.
I believe everything is pretty much intact except for the left headlight bezel is broke and missing a small section. I can post some more pics later if you are interested. All of the glass and the dash still need to come out, so those will be up for grabs as well.

Thanks.  If its a 1980 grill in good shape there will probably be lots of people interested!  Let me know if you're able to find it, and a picture would be appreciated.

I want the grill if it's still available. I also need both the 1980 style front fender flares, the rubbery plastic part that attaches to the front fenders.

My camera battery died before I could get any pics this morning. I don't have internet at home so I can only get on at work or at a friend's place. I'll get some pics tonight and have em up around 1 tomorrow. The fender flares are intact as well, but they seem to be a little hard and brittle. The right rear is cracked and missing pieces from it.

I was wrong about the mounting tab, the grill is intact.

If you are not using the dash (pad), Terry at the Rambler Ranch could use it in one of his Eagles.  I know for sure he has a 1980 Eagle with a warped dash pad.....Rich

The dash has a crack in it where the speaker grill is on the passenger side and is broken on the passenger side where the plastic screws down in the door jamb.

I think just the leather looking part that sticks out is all that is bad on Terry's car.  The actual dash "shell" is not damaged, so it is not needed.

Its been quite awhile since I've givin an update, but life has been in the way and I havnt had a chance to get anything done lol. I did have a little fun in a surprise snow storm yesterday tho.

It really needs at least 100 more horsepower and a lot more aggressive tires to be competitive.

Yeah, I've got the interior 90 percent gutted and don't have a switch hooked up. Not to mention that they're the same wipers that have been on it for 20 yrs.... theres not really any rubber left lol, only good for leavin scratches.
