So to the extent that a gathering of 2 Eagles constitutes a mini mini meet, one occurred today. A guy that had bought one of the Ford tachs lives in the Denver area and we met today so I could deliver the tach. He is a Nest Member (didn't catch his screen name and maybe not a frequent visitor) and a super nice guy (aren't all Eagle owners?). He owns a 1981 SX/4 which is in really great shape. He is going to take parts of a 232 engine and build a replica of an AMC 252 (?) that was sold in Mexico in the late 60s early 70s and put it in his SX/4. Oh, and he's going to turbo charge it too. Like I said, he is a really nice guy, and I already have him signed up for the next Eagle Motel cruise in 2014.
Anyways, here is a picture from the mini mini meet.

Nice pic. The VAM 282 uses a 258 crank with a different block with a larger bore similar to the jeep 4.0L. Maybe he meant/said 242 engine?

I don't think he said 242, but it was hard for me to concentrate with that nice looking Eagle staring me in the face!
The 232 was a common size offered until 1979 right along with the 258. Both my '79 and '74 Hornets have one. I've heard of another guy who claimed that the 232 accepted a turbocharger and was easier to build for superduty because of the bore and crank size being "square" or roughly equal.
I guess starting with the smaller 232 is exactly the same concept as taking the smaller displacement 242 and swapping in 258 parts to give it a greater displacement. I guess people having been making AMC strokers since before the 4.0 existed.
