Title: My 88 wagon
Post by: TwoEaglesForMe on April 07, 2013, 05:47:59 PM
It's a slow progress but figured I'd share a few pics of the 88 I have been slowly working on.  I'm in the home stretch now just down to cosmetics.  It's a daily driver / head turner.

It's a head turner.
I'd say so. Looks great.  :eagle:

Thanks Eaglefreek.  It's still too cold for me to get everything I want done,  but hopefully this year I will finish it up.  Still needs the hinges and headlight buckets replaced,  which I have,  and then it's off to the detailer for a good cleaning.  Not too bad considering it had no drivetrain and a trashed interior when I got it 2 years ago.  It was originally a woody with a dark blue metallic color,  like amcconcord78's.  I sure wish it still was,  but an Eagle saved is an Eagle saved.  When I found out is was an 88,  then I really had to have/save it.  Too bad I missed last month's entry.  Will post some interior pics soon

Engine and trans from donor 86 wagon.  I wish it was period correct though with the newer style head and/or serpentine belt,  but it runs awesome.

Some may notice the manifold heater hose missing as I ran out of extra hose so I temporarily bypassed it just to make it driveable.  I have since added it and funny the fuel mileage went up slightly.  It gets 22 highway at 60 MPH and about 16.3 around town.  Carter BBD MIU upgrade,  bosch +4 spark plugs,  8mm wires.  My 85 4 door has a 2100 with .46 jets MIU and both perform darn near identical.  Around here they call me the carter king LOL as I set all the jeepers straight with theirs.  The sport wheels I found on C-list in PA,  along with a center gauge cluster.  Headliner was replaced with 80's style GM blue with extra foam backing for better insulation and noise reduction.  Closest color match my friend had in stock.  This Eagle is turning out to be my favorite out of all 3 I drive.

Looks great all around.  At least the serpentine belt is period correct.  That was more of a California thing and not necessarily tied to a year.

Thanks everyone for checking out my thread.  If anybody has a complete serpentine belt set up for sale do let me know.  Or maybe it's adaptable from an XJ?  The V-belts are a hassle to me plus I think the serpentine looks cleaner.

The harmonic balancer grooves are 3/8" closer to the block on the 4.0L than the 4.2L serpentine setup. Putting a Delco alt into the 4.0L system is the only issue I had with a complete swap out in my '84 J10. I have a 4.0L from a '93 Grand Cherokee in it. Delco alts are cheap to replace and the XJ ones aren't, which is why I went with it.
