Also, it looks like there are still those 2 Eagles in the U Pull and Pay yard near 68th and Broadway in Denver.  They both had the 258 engine, I don't know if the axles shafts are different for the Iron Duke cars??? Let me know if I can help out.

Does anyone know if there was other damage done when the axle broke?  Did the car fall at speed and destroy the brakes? Is the end of the axle tube banged up?

Thank you all for your input.
No the axle broke turning a corner in town at about 5mph.  As soon as I let out the clutch I heard the thump, so I stopped right away,  The hub and wheel didnt make it off the brake shoes when I stopped, so the fenders are still in tacked and the axle tub is still good.  The axle broke right at the end of the shaft about 1/2 inch inside the hub.  hub spun and stripped out the splines so a new hub was in order too.  I did find an axle shaft at "29th Street Auto" in Pueblo,CO.  Istalled it and found the shaft was bent.  The "29th Street Auto" now has the car and are installing a complete axle assembly.  Very good prices and They have 5 AMC's/Eagles to pick parts from.  One Eagle they dont want to part out because it is complete.

The broken shaft is rusty about 2/3rds of the way through the break, only about 1/3rd was a shiney break.  So it looks like it had been cracked for quite some time.

the fast response I got from you all has been great.  That is the Eagle community.

Prior to '83 the assembly line made a goof and over-torqued one of the axles 2.2 times as tight as it should have been. Many snapped off (including my old wagon)
