A few years ago I saw an ad on autotrader for an '83 "Limited" SX4. They wanted crazy money for it and they never provided a pic of the interior and I do not see a Limited package as an option in my copy of the 83 factory brochure so I chalked it up to a seller that was not correct in their description. Now I see an 83 SX4 Limited for sale that is supposed to have a leather interior - although no picture is provided. So.... was there, in fact, a Limited package option for the SX4?
My collection of AMC factory literature from that era is extensive.
Nowhere do I find mention of a regular production Limited model being offered on Spirit series 40 or Eagle series 50 cars after 1980.
There is always the possibilty that one or more special order Limited models were produced.

The VIN number of the SX/4 currently advertised as a "Limited" on the big auction site indicates that it is a base model.

Of course that "Limited" emblem was borrowed off a Jeep Grand Waggie.
I can turn anyone's vehicle into a "Limited". ;)

If I read that right that means you found the limited option for 1980 Spirits but not for any 1981 or newer Spirits or SX4s. I've seen at least two legit Limited Spirits. Those two must have been from 1980 then?
Looks like vinyl seats to me. Also has regular steering wheel and looks like all base trim but has sport mirrors. Also no wood trim on dash.

As illustrated in the sales literature of the time, series 40 Spirits with the optional Limited package were regular production models for 1979 and 1980. None of my AMC factory showroom or dealer-only literature mentions a "Limited" model for 1981-1983 series 40 Spirits or series 50 Eagles.

One of the door panels on my big wagon is a limited door panel... just the drivers front though.

The "Limited" option package, at a $400-$700 premium depending upon model year, was offered on series 30 Eagles from 1980-1987.
