Title: Undercoating
Post by: dakrisnit on November 04, 2012, 11:09:36 PM
Was undercoating a factory item or was it a dealer add-on?
Now that I've had some time with my new Eagle in the garage, I've been able to take a really good look at the underbody.  It seems to have a really good coating under it, I can't hardly find any rust under there.  I was really expecting more.

From the sales brochures, they were factory Ziebart undercoated.

Factory undercoated as I recall.  The problem with that is over the years the undercoating has contracted and left many areas unprotected, especially evident inside the doors.

i still have the original ziebart undercoting on my 1980 eagle and there is no rust on it, i repaint the undercarriage from time to time to keep the protection under any condition the whole year

I always thought undercoating should be touched up every few years. It shrinks and chips off.

If memory serves, AMC warranted the undercoating (rust-through guarantee) for 10 years.  Unheard of at the time for a manufacturer.
