Title: Help with 4x4
Post by: drew68 on June 06, 2012, 12:05:24 AM
Hello
I recently purchased a 1983 Eagle Wagon.  The previous owner converted it to cable actuated 4x4.  It has two cables/knobs mounted on the floor.  They are pushed in to lock in the 4wd.  My question is.... Does one engage the transfer case and one engage the front axles? (makes sense to me) and also, which should be engaged first t-case or the axles?  It seems to work, but is a little finicky to get engaged once in awhile, so I'm not sure I'm engaging them in the right order.   Any help would be appreciated.  thanks

Axle first always

As a matter of fact, you can leave the axle engaged all the time, it won't hurt anything.

They are going to take a little to engage the factory setup used the vacuum motor to provide pressure while the car moved a few feet and the splines matched up to engage. With cables you'll have to provide that.
