hey guys, contemplating what tire to throw on my eagle.
my first choice is a 31 10.50 but is this tire to bulky for the eagle 4.2 (has a cam and 2150 mc carb) to handle ? with the torqieness of the car go out the window?
my other choice was BFGoodrich all terrain 215 /75R15 which is a 27.8 inch tire with 8.4 tred width.
i would like the bigger tire to have more travel under the car. does the performance significantly decrease? worth it?
Don't think you'll have much luck getting those 31's under there without some lifting.
235/75/15 goes in with a mild lift. I wish they still made 235/85/15s
I had 31x 10.5 on my lifted wagon for a while and they were too big in my opinion. The steering was heavy and I still had some clearance issues even with trimmed fenders. Some of that was exagerated by the fact i have to run offset rims but the acceleration was no good and the steering were the big things. ... on a more important point it looked really awesome!!! :)
I agree. I had those on my J4000 and Comanche and when I switched them to 33/9.50/15 they handled MUCH better. 30/9.50/15s are as wide as I would go.
haha gotta hand it to you, never really thought of me as a forum cat, but i will never do anything again without running it buy you guys, thanks so much. thats exactly what i was worried about with the 31 10.50's i knew it was going to look sweet but if performance was hindered that much, its simply not worth it. i think ill go with the 225/75R15 Falken High Country A/T
thanks again guys!!! :occasion14:
Im the same jonnyeagle. Before I do things to my Eagle, I search here first. Well worth the effort with all knowledge here.
Just so you know the 225/75s are still going to require some lifting and/or cutting to make them fit.
Also I'm picking up some turbine wheels soon and they have 31 x 11.50 tires on them...I might throw them on the back just to see if they'd fit, but I doubt they will. I'm just purchasing them for the wheels anyway.
im aware. im throwing a 1" spring spacer in the front and opening up the wheel well. but thank you for the heads up. 31 11.50!!! holy moly, bet they would look BADDDDDD on the eagle ;)

I don't think those are called "turbine" wheels. I think those are the "turbo cast" wheels.
If they aren't called turbine then there are a bunch of people that are calling them that. Do a Google search for Cherokee Turbine wheels. Bunch of photos of those wheels will show up. They certainly are different from like the Mustang Turbine and some older turbine wheels.
Let's call them Turbine-ish! :)

This is the difference. The style you are referring too are called Turbo Cast 2, notice they have 12 spokes.
Yeah, I believe the AMC TurboCast IIs that went on the spirits where a bit wider than our wheels...the offset is also way different. Would definitely require trimming. These should mount up pretty easy as several guys on the forum have these wheels. Eaglefreek and recomer. I'm excited to get them.
i just bought a 82 eagle sx4 and i got a set of 30x 9.5 r15 tsl swampers for it from a friend but im trying to figure out how much i have to lift it to have them fit under it without any rubbing. you guys have any idea? ???
You need to fender cut too. 235/75/15s (28.8" tall) required a bit of front fender surgery on SOTE.
The 235 tires probably look the best on an Eagle if you're willing to cut the rockers and fenders back a little, but I think 215 BFGs would look awesome. I love my "stock" 205/75/R15 BFG Radial T/As, but they could be a little bigger. I certainly wouldn't sacrifice power for 31 inch tires, I need all I can get out of this thing lol!
I had planned on going to at least 235/75/15s, which is why I had lower ratio axles. Too bad I won't be able to finish it unless I sell something else.
