Title: Front axle bearing replacement warning/advice
Post by: amkfken on April 26, 2012, 09:50:20 PM
Had left side bearings/seals etc. replaced by reputable shop, re-assembled and torqued axle nut to 180ft lbs per TSM--after about 250 miles strange sound when applying brakes!

The wheel had a LOT of play, axle nut required about 1 1/2 turns to snug up, then re-torqued to 180ft lbs.

Nut did not come loose, I am guessing the bearings were not properly seated at the shop, axle nut torque did not seat bearings completely, guessing the shop did not have a big enough press (tonnage)??

TSM does require re-torquing, guess we had better include this on our pre-trip items to check especially if bearings have been replaced.

Or the race partially collapsed.
