Title: Recent purchase 1972 Javelin
Post by: beej8508 on April 25, 2012, 12:36:02 AM

I found this on C.....list.  It was misspelled so no one knew about it.  The asking price was $2000.  I offered $1700 and the the owner accepted it.
It runs and drives.  It has a 360 which needs a water pump.  No rust except three spots, two around the rear window and one on the trunk lid and one dent on the drivers side quarter panel.  The color on the car is, grasshopper green! I drove one like this in high school during late 1970's. It was my brothers hand me down car after he bought a new Camaro.

I think I saw this for sale on the AMC forum...or maybe CL. Where was the car located?

Bummer about that rear quarter! Overall looks like a pretty nice ride. And I good price.

Sweet Javelin! It looks better than mine does at the moment. Please tell me you will keep the original colors. I love seeing a car at a show that has a wierd color that nobody else would keep on their car. I will be painting my '72 javelin the original baja bronze!

I am going to put the trim back on and get the dent fixed....then painting the area that was repaired.  I like seeing original cars..with the blemishes.  They add character!  The paint is, Grasshopper Green..and I think it's a great '70's color!

My brother posted some pictures on the AMC forums.  After buying the Kammback and getting the '83 back on the road... I didn't want to spend the money.  He was proving that I would be stupid not to buy it.  :)

Saw that for sale a while ago. Looks good. I kinda wish I had one of the 73's with the 390 engine. I have a lot of performance ideas for that setup.

With that color interior it would be hard not to paint it any other color but the grasshopper green! :)

The 390 was only in 68-70 , then the biggest was the 401 - wich in reality is a 390 with just a little more bore as all the blocks were the same external dimensions on the v8.390 are tough to come by, I paid$750 for a block, crank, and a few buckets of pistons and rods etc, and the heads of course. My 73 Javalin/AMX had a 401 , and was plum crazy color , the floors rotted out of it though :'(

The 390 and 401 have the same bore, but the 401 had a longer stroke.

That was a very lucky find, and a wicked price.

Most people want thousands of dollars for Javelins in worse shape.  I saw one that is for sale without any motor, rotting in a field - doesn't run, and the guy wants like $5-6000 for it.

Crazy...

I've never noticed the top before, but with those lines it looks like it was made to be a T-Top!

My 68 AMX , just hit the for sale ring on the Bay Monday, that and everything I have ever stashed away for it.
Hate to do it, but singilly it will bring in the most cash out of everything else I own right now.
