Title: Rear drum question
Post by: austinp on March 19, 2012, 05:35:14 PM
I am in the process of buying new rear brake drums for my 82 SX/4.  At Napa the have both side mounted balance weight and top mounted balance weight.  Does anyone know which I need?

Thanks!

All mine were between the face and the wheel, but I'm running steel wheels. Eagles should be 10x1-3/4. AMC also used a 9x2 rear drum concurrently with the Eagle on vehicles, make sure you have the right diameter and it may eliminate one choice.

Yup, find any Dana 35 with disc brakes to get the backing plates and change out the master cylinder for a proper disc-disc unit. There are even whole kits for it.

Would there be a benefit to switching over to disk brakes all around? Easier to work on disks I think and better for stopping power from what I've read in Popular Mechanics.
