so i took her out today to get a fresh oil change and now i can't get the key out. it will go back to the last position before the one where it comes out with the release lever.
i tried mutliple times, starting and restarting but she won't let go of the darn thing.
so it can stay there as far as i'm concerned, i'll just keep the doors locked.
but turned all the way back the clock lights up so i left it one turn ahead where the clock is not lit.
hoping not to drain the battery.
its the only key i have too, i was hoping to get a couple keys made but the hardware shop didn't have any blanks for them. haven't made it to the auto parts store yet.
i suppose it needs a new ignition switch huh?
The lock cylinder comes out fairly readily. A GM cylinder from a similar-vintage car will fit. A locksmith may be able to extract the key but it may hang up again. :eagle:
With the proper tools, it took me about 20 minutes to swap out the ignition cylinder in my '87 Eagle. It was a junkyard rescue which came to me with no keys. The replacement cylinder was graciously donated by a '91 GMC S15 in the Pick-n-Pull yard.
Actually, it sounds like you rolled it all the way back to ACC and passed where the key pulls out. It's an OLD ACDelco thing.

I was thinking that same thing when she said that last thing about the clock staying on.
That was the clue
I almost assumed male, but left it gender neutral because I've been bit before.
Corrected my post! :)
I'm starting to learn who all the women are on here!
yeah, i'm a girl. one of those special rare Eagle loving girls. ;D
but i can't get the key past the point where it comes out, just the point before the release point.
at that point, the clock is on, so i went one click back (towards the dash) where the clock is not on.
so i guess its safe to just leave the key in there?
When the clock goes off, you should be able to pull the key out. I have 6 sisters (in law, but we grew up together) so I understand.
well today Irma must be feeling better with a belly full of fresh oil,
so she decided to let me have the key back ???
don't know why but i am happy to have it. ;)
Glad she coughed the keys up for you! :)
