I have an 85 Eagle with the in-line 6 258 carbureted. It has about 1000 vaccum lines under the hood, I hate vaccum lines. Looking to get ride of all that since there are no emissions laws where I live. Biggest problem Ive come into so far is the vaccum advance (see theres that word again) on the distributor is hooked up to freaking everything. Has anyone gotten rid of all the vaccum lines under the hood? If so any help would be great, right now I'm looking at going to a mechanical distributor and trading the original carb for a aftermarket 2 barrel for now. Any thought Eagles Nest :help:
thanks for the help good to know about the Chrysler carb. When I bought this car it was 500 bucks the guy said it needed a starter. As it turned out it needed a new ring gear on the flywheel and a clutch and a slave cylinder and a clutch master cylinder. needless to say I'm a little over budget on my 500 dollar car I'm into it for around 1200 bucks now. So I'm tring to figure out what cars will have compatible parts that I need. Do you know what kind of Chrysler it was off of and what vehicle I would look at that would have a mechanical distributor on it. Junk yards in Alaska are few and far between and heck to get parts out of in the winter.
Welcome! I rescently installed the motorcraft carb upgrade that Gronk (one of our Nest members) sells. It got rid of about 10 of those darn vaccum lines. Before (http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/shanebo79/3842.jpg) After (http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/shanebo79/124309.jpg) (http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc377/shanebo79/124315.jpg)

Welcome, here's a write up on posting pics: http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=36443.0
I will also agree that the Motorcraft carb is a good choice, but it looks like you are on a tight budget, so if you can find a Carter BBD non feed back carb for an AMC from 80 and below I believe, it will bolt right on to your manifold and will reduce some of the vacuum lines along with the computer bypass aka ECM Test bypass. Spend a little time searching the Nest. There is a lot of information so it can get overwhelming. Also any info you find on the net pertaining to the Jeep 258 of the same time frame, will relate to your engine also.
Welcome to the Nest! Yes, this is information central for all your AMC Eagle needs -- we all know about budgets.

So hare are the pics of what I'm working with. I'm a motorcycle mechanic by trade and all these extra line are kinda throwing me off. So just to confirm if I change over to the mechanical distributor and the 2150 carb kit from GRONK this should let me get rid of all but 2 of the vaccum lines ( the break buster line and and the 4WD line). and also keep the car from backfiring and falling on its face. Thanks again for all your guys help, finding this site has been a lot of help with my Eagle.
