Title: my project eagle
Post by: sammuel on January 21, 2012, 09:16:36 PM
Hey everyone I have been lurking here for a short while I have an 82 wagon ltd its got the 258, I recently got the transmission fixed so now it drives, but still doesnt idle properly have repaired several vacuum lines under the hood, removed the pulse air system, and put almost all new lines in the 4x4, 4x4 still doesnt want to shift properly possibly still have a leak somewhere because when i shift into 4x4 it only shifts it halfway. I (being a complete newbie) have a few questions. first any ideas what this is? http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j404/sammuel357/IMG_20120121_175355.jpg  it is on the passenger side of the engine block comes out of the harness and hangs there cannot figure out that it goes to. also what is this http://i1084.photobucket.com/albums/j404/sammuel357/IMG_20120121_175428.jpg for?  I should know what it does however I am having a hard time following it through the firewall into the engine compartment so I figured it would be easier to ask. thanks for the great website!

Welcome! How about pics of your Eagle?

The wire, I have no idea. The knob with the squid graphic is a fresh air vent. Pull to close and push to open I believe.

Your first pic looks like the wire for the oil pressure sending unit which is mounted on the side of the rear right engine block. And the second one is the vent knob AKA squid release.

I looked all over the pass. Side rear of the block but could not find anywhere the wire would fit however my oil pressure gauge does not work so it makes sense that it would be that I'll try using eaglepedia to find a diagram thanks for the help

yeah I saw that plug before when I was searching for the attachment point for that wire didnt know what it was but it looked like all the wires that belong on it where on it already. I have been out of town for a few days but tomorrow am gonna have a full day to work on the eagle and will double check that. Also got all the parts for my TFI upgrade today  :hello2:

k so I checked again today the wire does not go to the oil pressure sending unit, its got a spade connector and then the end is also a connector of some sort any other ideas? its possible it goes on the other side of the engine as well it just happened to be on this side when I found it.

It kinda looks to me like the same wire that connects to the temperature sensor, located in the rear of the cylinder head on the driver side. Looks like this:

Mine has the same wire hanging down....actually several ive had over the years have had that. I dont know if it was maybe for an option that my cars didnt have like the auto leveling compressor or somthing  ??? As for that knob, I thought for the longest time it was the choke  :rotfl: No wonder the car didnt start any easier when I pulled it out.

well today I tackled my tach, after reading on here it sounds like these tach's where prone to failure anyhow and my local parts stores don't have a listing for the tach, and of course none of the local junk yards have a donor eagle or any AMC's for that matter I got a generic one from oriellys and made it work, doesn't actually look that bad when its all done, here is the tach. i used http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/EQU0/6086.oap?ck=Search_tachometer_N0531_-1_750&keyword=tachometer&pt=N0531&ppt=C0134 will get pics up of the finished product up tomorrow
