I was wondering if the Coupe, SX4, and Kamback shared the same doors.
Same door. All AMC did, great thinking really, was to make the window frames adjustable at the factory to accommodate the slightly different roof profiles.
Adjustable? You mean AMC just bent it to fit the roof line(imagining assembly line worker with a BFH)? What about the door glass?
The frames were spotted welded into the correct location to fit the car they were going on. Not sure about the glass. Maybe our parts book will provide that answer. Knowing AMC they probably used the same glass.
Unless you want to cut the welds where the window frame joins the door a 2 door coupe door will not fit an SX/4 and vice versa. We've held a 2 door coupe door into the opening of an SX/4 and it doesn't fit.
Thanks for the good info on an actual experiment, priya.
Yup, that is right you have to remove the welds that hold the window frame in place.
Very interesting about the window frames Doug.....I dont actually need a door right now, just one of those questions that just poped into my mind incase I ever do....Always good to know this stuff ahead of time.
I was looking at pictures of Vangremlins Kamback and the the roofline looks pretty flat...I wonder if the Kammback shares the same doors with a Coupe.
I think the Kammback and sedans had the same roof profile. It was the other AMC 2 door models where they had to alter the window profile a bit.
