Title: what year Ford?
Post by: jim on November 14, 2011, 09:01:15 PM
We need parts from a Ford 300 for the TFI upgrade.

What year Ford should I ask for?

I've asked this question in the past but I guess the answer was lost in Great Delete II.
I have all correct parts except I was given the wrong rotor.  Advance said
GP Sorenson no longer makes the FR106.  She crossed it over to a BWD D213Z.  It's not even close.
I've almost given up on finding parts by make and part number.  If they can't look it up by application
you may as well give up.

I would have finished this upgrade this afternoon except for that !@#$@$% rotor.  Well, if I did everything else correct, that is. :P
I obviously haven't checked voltage to the coil because it doesn't run that well without a rotor. ;)

Hey, never mind.  I found my receipt and it has the application on the ticket.  1985.

I bought all my parts back in April but didn't perform the upgrade until yesterday.  When I bought the parts at Advance I was told the GP Sorenson was no longer available and they sold me the BW crossover.
After work today I took it back and asked the counter guy to try again.  He looked it up in his computer, walked back to the shelves and brought me a GP Sorenson.  The box has a sticker on top with these numbers:
D219Z
FR106.
I braved the thunderstorm to go out to the free standing car port and install the new rotor.  It lives, it lives!
I'm ready now to begin the carb upgrade.  It will be a little harder on this 88 than the 83 because the wires are hidden in looms and there seem to be more of them jammed into the same size space.
I hope to tackle that project 11/18.
