Title: tc vaccuum motor test
Post by: neweagle on November 10, 2011, 08:10:25 PM
Without hooking up a used tc vacuum motor to the tc case, how would I test it for push and pull strength. Don't want to install only to find out its not strong enough to operate the tc. Thanks.

You can pick up a cheap vacuum pump with a gauge. As long as the motor can hold 20" for a couple of minutes on each port it should work fine.

I will give it try. How long should it hold that 20ins of vacuum?

I don't know of any test in the TSM, but 1-2 minutes should be enough. Either the diaphragm is good or it's damaged.

It's under constant vacuum from the engine so it doesn't need to be engineered perfect, just enough that it doesn't all leak out while you're going up a hill. Although I bet a new one would hold for quite a long time.

It should be pretty obvious when you work the motor that it's moving air, but that won't show if there is a tear in the inside.
