Title: Eagle in Action to avoid disaster!!!! Photo included.
Post by: GRONK on October 09, 2011, 11:59:44 AM
If you look at the pic close enough you can hear me squeezing my sphincter.

I just picked up my 1st Eagle and was taking it home.  Wife following me in my Jeep.  We were North bound I-25 just past Denver.  I'm steadily playing with every switch, light, button seeing what all works and not.  I'm passing a semi running about 80MPH in the fast lane and look ahead to see a Ford truck starting to swerve in the lane just inside of my own.

BAM!!!

Its driver side front tire comes completely off, parts are flying everywhere, smoke, sparks, flames and me going way too fast in an Eagle I had bought no more than 12 minutes earlier.

I'm watching the tire (also traveling 80mph) bounce in front of me, dodging caliper parts and I have a semi right on my butt.

The tire led me for over 1 full mile.  Here's the only pic I could get.(http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l543/ehrmannmp/IMAG0115.jpg)

close one! I had one bounce over my car a few times. Once one of them embedded in the windshield of an oncoming car.

I am surprised you were able to get any photo at all!   Are you saying the wheel just bounced over your car and caused NO damage to it? (your car, not the wheel).

It took a couple serious bounces that were 10'+ in height at 80mph. Every time it hit the median it got crazy then straightened out again.  Came with in 4' of me about 3 times.  I stayed close to it in case I cad to help "curb" it for safety.  I followed it until it stopped just off the road.

I get it now, I thought the wheel was coming toward you.  It all makes sense, and that explains why you had time to take a photo.  I guess you were racing it down the road!

A friend of mine had something like that happen on her VW Beetle.  She was driving down the road and saw a wheel and tire roll out in front of her.  From what I am told about 30 seconds later her VW did a nosedive of sorts and slammed to halt.

The VW story, many many many way to many years ago a bunch of friend a case of beer and me where driving down the river levy on a VW Beetle when all of a sudden the rear wheel and tire came off and pass us at high rate of speed. If you hadn't mention your VW story I wouldn't have remember that.
