My 86 wagon does not have nor did it ever have a roof rack...I never put a whole lot of thought into it until a new member posted pics of his car and there was alot of suprise about there being no roof rack on his car. does anyone here know a rough percentage of how many vehicles came without the rack.
I've seen few, I know where one is sitting right now in a junkyard though...
I live in Oregon and my 85 limited wagon is a roof rack delete. My buddy has an 86 sport wagon it is also a roof rack delete but has more trim elsewhere than I have seen before. Both wagons were originally purchased at a dealership in Milwaukee Oregon, which makes me wounder if it was a regional option having to do with all the rain we get out hear.
My old 81 had the roof rack delete and it was purchased new in Denver.
I wish mine would have been a roof rack delete. Repairing the rust and water damage from that thing was a big expensive pain.
According to AMC dealer publications, the Eagle station wagon roof rack was offered as optional equipment from 1980-1987. During that period the price ranged from about $95.00 to $136.00. It became standard equipment on 1988 models.
Mine was purchaced new in Denver too...Bob Bundy AMC Jeep Renault to be exact....I never use the roof rack so I rather like the fact the 86 doesnt have one.Im actually kinda suprised ya dont see more with out it....My guess is 90% of the Eagle wagons on the dealers lots probably had the roof rack option and if ya didnt want it the hastle of getting one without it in the color and trim level you wanted probably outweighed the $100.00 cost.
Touge's old Caroline is from BobBundy too !!! but it has therack.
I know my Eagle was originally sold in Colorado. I'll have to find what's left of the window sticker and see what dealership it is from. IIRC I believe it is from Denver.
It was pretty cool when tougeagle was up at my house and we were working on the old birds. We both had identical 83 wagons...same color...same tan replacement fenders and the bob bundy logo on the trunk...our cars were literally mirror images of eachother....whats the odds?
That's the way Rollguy and I felt about our Eagles. They are both 83's, same color and options.
