The bearings in my water pump are failing and can be heard with a bit of a grinding noise during the first minute of a cold start. Lately I seem to be getting slightly higher than normal engine temps as well. I want to replace the pump and I even have the pump off of a spare engine as a reference but I can't distinguish standard rotation from reverse. To make this worse, the GMB catalog has a conflict between performance parts where two of differing rotations will fit the same engine.
All I can say is the rotation direction matches that of the crankshaft pulley. Is this standard or reverse?
That would be standard. The serp belt version is the reverse.
Serpentine belt version? I wonder what that would look like. If a standard rotation pump is what actually belongs on this then I'm unable to imagine why the reverse version is also listed in the catalog. Must be for some design I've never seen before.
Well, thanks. I'll order the GMB1101030P and hope to God the rattling in this engine stops and I get cooler temps. I might have to get one for my spare engine when I finally do the swap.
Eagles and Jeeps were also available with serpentine belts and those would have reverse rotation.

This makes sense now. My setup matches the first diagram on the right. :)

How has the water pump worked so far, mine just blew today. Luckily I was only 3 miles from a Major town so I drove it the rest of the way, too bad it got so hot the safety on the radiator blew and got coolant all over the inside of the engine compartment and the air intake, hopefully none went in. Did it work with a V-Belt. Would napa carry the right parts?
Serp belt and Vee belt pumps look alike. The impeller direction is how you can tell.

Serpentine pumps also have rev molded into the casting
Not all aftermarket ones do.
