Title: My 1982 SX/4
Post by: BiRDman on August 18, 2011, 09:44:23 PM
I finally found a place to share my love of this car with others who truly appreciate them. I love this car. Others don't love it quite so much. My wife is embarrassed to have it parked in front of our house, and she WILL NOT ride in it.

Welcome.  That's a good looking SX/4.
Some on here have similar situations with their wives.
I'm lucky.  My wife WonderEAGLE is very supportive and helpful.  We're even co-moderators on the Eagle of the Month board.
Look all around - there is a weath of information and fun to be found here.
Where are you?  We have periodic meets where a few of us try to get together.  Maybe you can make one.

I'm in Dayton, Ohio. I have just recently decided to try to do some work to this car. It runs good, and looks pretty good, for a 30 year old original car, but I'm no longer satisfied. I am desperately looking for the bumper ends and the small round lenses on the quarter panels. At that point, the body will be mostly done at least. I'd like to hit a meet or two. Let me know if there are any in my area. Thanks.

Welcome. When I was married, I bought an Eagle and my wife said the same thing. She needed to drive it one time to work because her VW was in the shop. She fell in love with it and wanted to drive it more often and liked being a passenger in it after that. Here's a meet coming up but it's almost 400 miles from you. http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=35752.0

The bumper ends off wagons will work in the front, so you may be able to get some from a member here or at a local junkyard.  I have a right rear bumper end that is is pretty good shape but somewhat fragile.  I also have a pair of the rear marker light lenses/lights.  Send me a personal message if you are interested.  Thanks.

Very nice car by the way!

I'm surprised she feels that way, its in reasonably good shape and a great deal better looking car than the vast majority of vehicles made in the last 20 years.   I can't wait to get my SX/4 on the road, I feel its soooo much better looking than just about every car made in that time period.

I bought my Eagle Wagon from a guy who bought it 16 years ago. When he took it homeand his wife sam the Eagle for the first time, she let him know she would never, never ride in that car. So this wone ended up in a shed for 15 years. And then I bought it. This time my wife loves to look at the car but won't drive it. Lucky me, a car for my own :hello2:

Got some more pictures. It's not perfect, but, hey! It's 29 years old. It's original. And it's mine.

I'm toying with the idea of putting a brush guard or push bar on the front, with lights. Anyone know if there is one in particular that fits this car?

83Eagle! and DGeagle both have brush guards on their Eagles, which I think were originally made for Cherokees.  I don't think either one was a direct bolt on, there was some modification required.

There was one made for the AMC Eagle, but wasn't out in the market for to long.
You will have to find something you like and modify it to fit, witch should not be hard since the AMC Eagle bumper is  square.

a cherokee bush guard is the best way to go.  you will have to fab some mounts for it.  Just be sure that you can open your hood before you get too far with the brackets

This Eagle will be up for sale soon, but I'd like to know its value before I list it. Suggestions?

I'm not great at judging their values yet, so I'll leave it to someone else.

I know they will most likely ask you for some pictures of the underside, to help in determining the value. So maybe that's a start
If it's rotted out, it's worth a few hundred bucks, if it's perfect underneath quite a bit more.
Also depends what it needs. I always hear that bumper caps are a pain to find, but it looks pretty clean inside and out. I'm going to completely take a shot in the dark and say if the underside is good, 1500$ being an auto/4.2?. That's based on almost nothing.. aha..So don't take it as a real guess. I've seen some people ask/pay a lot more for car's I didn't think were worth it, and I've seen people ask a lot less for car's I thought were worth a lot more.. so  ???

That's the same paint scheme as my Wagon.  I should buy it and put a big bow on it and give it to my wife.  She'd be :censored:.  It would be hilarious.

83Eagle! That's funny! I say do it! If only for the laughs...then sell it...unless she takes a liking to it...maybe you could convert the wife to an Eagle Fanatic! :)
