Title: Factory power antena does not work. Any ideas?
Post by: rollguy on August 12, 2011, 11:11:07 PM
The factory power antenna does not work on my '83.  I removed the fender liner to see that it is hooked up.   Does anyone know how to test it?   Radio works, and all the fuses are good.   Any help would be appreciated. I need to fix it so I can take it through the automatic car wash.   Thanks, Rich

Can you hear the motor running?
If you can hear it then most like its the fifer cable that moves the antenna up and down.

The mast will not go down if I push on it.  That tells me that it is mechanically sound.  I can't hear the motor running, so it must be something electrical.

Have you connected the motor direct to the battery?

Jump it to 12V directly and it should go up.  When power is removed from it it should go down (at least that's how normal antennas work)

There are 3 wires on the connector.  How do I know which wires to connect to + & -?
The antenna is up all the time, even if the radio is off.
